When planning, many people think a motorbike tour is easy to organize in Vietnam or Asia. This is not true if you want a safe outdoor adventure away from the tourist trails. There are so many things to prepare like bikes, riding gear, luggage and insurance etc. and other logistics. It’s not as simple as sitting in a car enjoying Vietnam over windows. It’s a game of coming back in one piece!

Below are three different types of Vietnam motorbike tours you could choose, either guided or unguided. Offroad Vietnam provides some of the nicest motorcycle tours for you in Hanoi.

Fully Guided Vietnam Motorcycle Tours

Motorbike tours in Vietnam for beginners, novice, intermediate and experienced riders. It’s not just a tour or an adventure, but a fascinating motorcycle journey! This is the most popular type of tours we have been providing.

We choose the best places to eat, comfy places to stay and good services wherever we ride to. With us, you will be able to pick up the better services than when you are on your own. There is no point in saving some small cash in exchange for bad services!

Semi-guided Motorbike Adventures Of Vietnam

Basically, it’s bike(s) & a guide rental through Vietnam. Forget about bike fix and direction, decide your own tempo. You have total flexibility to stop, eat and sleep wherever you want. You just pay as you go. Last minute deals can be cheaper (low season) or more expensive (high season).

From our experience people tend to save when they pay spending on the road. This is not worth it. We pay more than average and have fresh and delicious food (not chemically frozen!), comfortable places to stay and a great trip. You get what you pay for. Naturally, people likely eat more when they are paid by us and save when they pay by themselves.

Self-guided Vietnam Motorbike Tours From Hanoi

This type of motorbike tour is best when you are looking for a new adventure away from the norm. You need to have good riding skills and are able to handle things on your own. If you are beginners or novice riders or can’t ride manual clutch motorbikes then this is not for you. Saving or loosing money is on you. We provide reliable bikes, a tool kit, spare parts, expert advice, comments and tips for you.

From our experience, you experience Vietnam less than the two packages above. Some people even try to save money by using very cheap hotels and food. This makes the riding even harder because you do need a comfy place to sleep and good food after a long day riding. Food poisoning is popular and if this happens you feel very uncomfortable or even can’t ride.

Guided or unguided?

One of our customers had this to say: “If this is your first visit to Vietnam take a guide with you, the help you get is invaluable and chances are he’ll save you money when it comes to bartering when you go shopping as well as helping you to get to know the people. Vietnam is a different world, it’s a beautiful country filled with the happiest friendliest most helpful people I have ever come across but its different, different in a pleasant way and you’ll need help coping with that difference.

A professional motorbike tour guide adds value to the whole experience, he’s 4-in-1: a guide, a handy mechanic, a leader and a translator. Without him, you won’t be able to find hidden roads and communicate with local people. We hope that you consider this carefully before deciding which motorbike tour to book.

OUR JAPANESE HONDA MOTORBIKE FLEET

Road/Dual Sport Touring Motorcycles & Semi-automatic or Fully Automatic Scooters

All small off-road motorbikes, road touring motorcycles and scooters (110-125cc) are 2013-2015 latest Japanese Honda models as of early 2014 for our Vietnam motorbike tours and rentals in Hanoi. We discontinued all older 110-125cc motorbikes that many shops in Hanoi still use. Scooters (picture 3 & 4) are only for long term rentals for riding in Hanoi as a commuter. These models are very reliable and near new conditions.

Off-Road Motorbikes

All 250cc off-road dual enduro bikes are Japanese Honda XR250’s and XR250 Bajas, were made between 1998 and 2005, owned and fully serviced by ourselves. They are among the best dual enduro bikes you can find in Hanoi. Due to age, these bikes are recommended for people who know mechanic repairs, if you just know how to ride it’s not enough.

Note: None of our bikes is ideal for riding two up because small bikes have small and skinny seat. For large foreigners, entry bike is from 650cc so don’t expect much from a bike under 250cc. If you ride two up, expect some discomfort and stop very often or buy extra cushion. We are honest about bike conditions and if you want freedom of mind, book a guided tour and our guide takes care of the bikes.

TYPICAL MOTORBIKE TOUR ITINERARIES OF VIETNAM

Offroad Vietnam is our trade name and trade mark. It doesn’t mean that we only ride off-road. On our Vietnam motorbike tours, we ride on all types of roads, from sealed and secondary roads, tracks, trails and footpaths. If you want more bumpy tracks, then head to Northern Vietnam because the Southern part is more flat and with lower mountains. Most of our dirt bike tours are in the Northern Vietnam provinces.

DIRT BIKES, MOTORBIKES, MOTORCYCLES & SCOOTERS FOR RENT IN HANOI

If you love motorbiking with a sense for fun and an unguided adventure on your own, you have come to the right place. You need to have good riding skills, know mechanic basics and have a strong sense of adventure.

For long trips we provide enduro bikes, motorcycles and riding gear to hire on daily basis. They are in good working conditions. All rentals should be reserved and paid with a deposit before you pick up the bike(s). We have not offered one-way rentals yet. Many clients asked if we could deliver or collect bike(s) in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City – HCMC) and rode the same route like “Top Gear Vietnam Special” show. Unfortunately the answer is “no”. All rentals start and end in Hanoi where our only office is located. We share our passion for this truly amazing country and getting lost is also part of an adventure. Even a flat tyre/tire will give you a chance to have many more new friends and some clients were sad because they had no puncture!

For riding in and around Hanoi, most expats would consider moped scooters and fully automatic scooters to hire on monthly basis. The rental is cheap and come with limited mileage of 1,500km/month. These Honda scooters are new or near-new (usually less than 20,000km odo and under 3 years old). However, they are not comfortable for long distance touring.

USED MOTORBIKES FOR SALE IN HANOI

Honda is by far the most popular brand, Vietnamese people refer Honda as motorbike by default. In fact, Honda is the most reliable brand on the road, you can simply look at the traffic stop lights and at least 70% of bikes is Honda.

There is a variety of makes and models, some date back to the 1960’s. Most of Hondas in Vietnam are step through mopeds or automatic scooters. Manual clutch bikes are hard to find and are usually in poor conditions. Road bikes come with low handle bars so if you are over 1.7m, you can get a number of aches and pains when riding for a few hours. Raised handle bars offer a solution but then the steering is not so good. Dirt/trail bikes are the best but they are very very hard to find and at a much higher cost.

Buying a Honda would be the safest bet because many mechanics have parts and knowledge on Honda bikes and it is not prone to break down. To see current bikes for sale from our company, please click here.

Ridiculously, the most popular bike used or bought by tourists to Vietnam is a Chinese copy of the Honda Win. The only thing that makes it popular is cheap price. There is nothing about safety, performance or reliability from this bike. If you want to know more then check out this page. Note that we never use, offer, provide or recommend this kind of bike.
