Ready for a great hike? Every week we run hikes and trips to the Great Wall, hills, mountains, forests, and villages around Beijing, with a wide range of hikes that are suitable for casual walkers as well as the super-fit.
Level 3 / 400 RMB – Follow a trail through the Changping countryside, passing villages, quarries, and a local shrine on the way to the Silver Pagodas, a set of five well-preserved 600-year-old pagodas that are all that remains of a big Buddhist temple.
Level 3+ / 400 RMB – Walk through chestnut orchards to find a dirt trail that climbs up to the unrestored wall; follow the wall through unrestored and restored sections, making a big climb up to a lookout point high on a ridge.
Level 3+ / 380 RMB – After a reasonably tough hill climb of 40–50 minutes, we reach a beautiful, unrestored stretch of Great Wall. The hike continues along the wall, passing through towers, finishing in a rustic village.
Level 4 / 380 RMB – Hill trails, valleys, villages, and a short stretch of unrestored Great Wall in Yanqing District.
Level 4 / 420 RMB – A looping walk over tricky terrain and unrestored Great Wall on the west side of Jiankou.
Level 3+ / 400 RMB – Follow an ancient pilgrims' trail through the hills and forests of Mentougou District, finishing up with a look about Dajue Temple.
