Scorching Night for Central NT

Joel Pippard, Saturday December 10, 2016 - 13:00 EDT

Parts of Central NT have had their hottest morning in 7 years.

Victoria River Downs recorded a minimum of 31.9 degrees. Nearby, Bradshaw recorded 29.9 degrees, and Delamere recorded 28.2 degrees.

These locations have not seen a warmer morning since December 2009.

The minimum temperatures occurred around 6am local time this morning but temperatures were still over 34 degrees at 2am.

A hot airmass lingering over the region, combined with thick residual cloud from overnight thunderstorms to the west, meant that very little radiative cooling occurred.

Storms are likely to hit the region this afternoon, cooling the temperatures overnight.
