A drunken brawl at Flinders Street Station spilled onto station platforms, raising fears someone could be thrown onto the tracks during the melee, which began just before midnight on Saturday.
Police had to draw their batons and used capsicum spray to disperse a group of about 30 people after the fight broke out at 11.55pm.
While the initial fight broke up, smaller fights began. Brawlers moved to adjoining platforms four and five where another fight broke out.

Metro Trains stopped trains at the request of police for about five minutes while the crowd was dispersed to ensure no one was hit by an oncoming train.
Trains were delayed for 15 minutes on the Alamein, Craigieburn, Cranbourne, South Morang, Frankston, Glen Waverley, Hurstbridge, Lilydale, Pakenham, Sandringham, Upfield, Werribee and Williamstown lines due to the brawl. The delays lasted about an hour.
Yarra Trams also held up Swanston Street trams because of the melee.

Two other people were arrested for drunken behaviour.

An investigation into what caused the fight is under way.
