Jackson River is the name of rivers and places:
Virginia (i/vərˈdʒɪnjə/ vər-JIN-yə, UK /vərˈdʒɪniə/ vər-JIN-ee-ə), officially the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a state located in the South Atlantic region of the United States. Virginia is nicknamed the "Old Dominion" due to its status as the first colonial possession established in mainland British America, and "Mother of Presidents" because eight U.S. presidents were born there, more than any other state. The geography and climate of the Commonwealth are shaped by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Chesapeake Bay, which provide habitat for much of its flora and fauna. The capital of the Commonwealth is Richmond; Virginia Beach is the most populous city, and Fairfax County is the most populous political subdivision. The Commonwealth's estimated population as of 2014 is over 8.3 million.
The area's history begins with several indigenous groups, including the Powhatan. In 1607 the London Company established the Colony of Virginia as the first permanent New World English colony. Slave labor and the land acquired from displaced Native American tribes each played a significant role in the colony's early politics and plantation economy. Virginia was one of the 13 Colonies in the American Revolution and joined the Confederacy in the American Civil War, during which Richmond was made the Confederate capital and Virginia's northwestern counties seceded to form the state of West Virginia. Although the Commonwealth was under one-party rule for nearly a century following Reconstruction, both major national parties are competitive in modern Virginia.
Fly fishing is an angling method in which an artificial "fly" is used to catch fish. The fly is cast using a fly rod, reel, and specialized weighted line. Casting a nearly weightless fly or "lure" requires casting techniques significantly different from other forms of casting. Fly fishermen use hand tied flies that resemble natural invertebrates, baitfish, other food organisms, or "lures" to provoke the fish to strike (bite at the fly).
Fly fishing can be done in fresh or salt water. North Americans usually distinguish freshwater fishing between cold-water species (trout, salmon, steelhead) and warm-water species, notably bass. In Britain, where natural water temperatures vary less, the distinction is between game fishing for trout and salmon versus coarse fishing for other species. Techniques for fly fishing differ with habitat (lakes and ponds, small streams, large rivers, bays and estuaries, and open ocean.)
Author Izaak Walton called fly fishing "The Contemplative Man's Recreation".
A river is a natural flowing watercourse, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, sea, lake or another river. In some cases a river flows into the ground and becomes dry at the end of its course without reaching another body of water. Small rivers can be referred to using names such as stream, creek, brook, rivulet, and rill. There are no official definitions for the generic term river as applied to geographic features, although in some countries or communities a stream is defined by its size. Many names for small rivers are specific to geographic location; examples are "run" in some parts of the United States, "burn" in Scotland and northeast England, and "beck" in northern England. Sometimes a river is defined as being larger than a creek, but not always: the language is vague.
Rivers are part of the hydrological cycle. Water generally collects in a river from precipitation through a drainage basin from surface runoff and other sources such as groundwater recharge, springs, and the release of stored water in natural ice and snowpacks (e.g. from glaciers). Potamology is the scientific study of rivers while limnology is the study of inland waters in general.

Western and Southwest Virginia are littered with waters stocked with trout by the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries. Some of the finest are in remote Bath County, as such the case with the Jackson River, which flows only a few miles from the West Virginia border in the Allegany Mountains. The river offers miles of roadside access and excellent fishing for rainbow trout and some brown trout. While many of the trout planted are small 9-10 inch fish, larger planters up to several pounds are available, too. None of us had ever fished this system and we were faced with high and somewhat stained water after several days of heavy spring rains. Meanwhile, armed with Pautzke Orange Deluxe, Yellow Jacket and Gold Label Balls O Fire salmon eggs we caught dozens of trout as you'll see o...
Enjoying this magical day off on the Jackson River were Robert Guedj and Bill Fowlkes Lane. Poised to move out west soon, Robert was blessed with a personal-best wild brown to rival the best of most western rivers. Bill landed a highly respectable brown of his own. Enjoy a guided trip on the Jackson River in Va, very close to The Omni Homestead (Hot Springs, VA) and The Greenbrier (White Sulphur Springs, WV) resorts, or overnight at our Stonesthrow cabin right on the river.. The States of New York and West Virginia are also involved to a more limited degree. Under a recent federal consent order, the EPA has taken a stronger role than in the past. The first webinar on this program in late May focused on programs in Maryland with panelists from the Maryland Department of Planning and the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
