what a shot!

Australia won by 117 runs

SUMMARY: Another comprehensive win to Australia, who take the series 3-0. It looked early like this one might be a struggle when the home side lost their first four wickets for just 73, but Dave Warner found some support from George Bailey then Travis Head and he ended up batting through the innings for a magnificent 156. A tally of 264 was gettable, but after a solid enough start, New Zealand crumbled, losing 9/73, no batsman able to better opener Martin Guptill's 34. Mitch Starc was the pick of the bowlers with 3/34 and Head also bowled a tidy and effective spell with 2/37. Australia, after being smashed only a couple of months ago in South Africa, has again found some one-day form. That's it from Rohan Connolly here at Blog Central, we'll see you at the Gabba next Thursday for the First Test between Australia and Pakistan.

wicket!

Wicket! NZ All out 147

What a catch! Smith again! Cummins back on, Boult flashes at it, gets a thick edge, and Smith at second slip dives to his right and parallel to the ground takes it in his right hand. Almost as good as his speccie in Sydney last weekend! Huge win to Australia!

wicket!

Wicket! NZ 9/143

Easy pickings! Southee tries to hit Faulkner down the ground but just dollies it up in the air to Dave Warner in the covers! It's last rites time now.

wicket!

Wicket! NZ 8/139

Yep, Starc again! Gets hit for a couple of fours, but what a reply, another full pitch ball spearing into the left-handers legs and Santner is trapped right in front. NZ have no reviews left, and that's that, you'd reckon

wicket!

Wicket! NZ 7/126

Starc again! Almost a repeat of the ball which cleaned up Nicholls. This time Munro is the victim, and similarly, his leg stump gets knocked back with gusto. Beautiful delivery, and the Kiwis look shot now.

Four for Munro

Munro smacks Head back over his ... yep, head, but that's the only boundary for a bit, and the required run rate has crept up to 6.41 with only four wickets in hand. Starc back on now, too, replacing Hazlewood. NZ 6/126.

wicket!

Wicket! NZ 6/113

That hurts! De Grandhomme hits Hazlewood into the deep, where Head has to move quickly, but just manages to get his hands under the ball before it hits the turf. Well taken, the kid's in everything in this game!

Six!

Good stroke from de Grandhomme, just picks the bowler up and deposits him straight back over Head's head, the sightscreen and on to the black canvas behind them. Big hit, that's six anywhere. NZ 5/113

wicket!

Wicket! NZ 5/98

And it's a great review! Ball tracking is the key and shows it would have hit the pegs after it pitched in line. The original call is overturned and Watling is on his way, NZ in a bit of disarray now!

Watling gets four

First boundary for a while, Head is short and wide outside leg and is swept to the rope for four. Good response, though, beats Watling as he tries to sweep again and there's decent shout for LBW. Turned down, Smith asks for a review.....

Know what you're getting at, Harf, but he's still only bowled three overs! ...

wicket!

Wicket! NZ 4/83

Starc strikes! Beautiful yorker to Nicholls. It speared into the left-hander's legs, almost knocked him off balance as he tried to dig it out, but to no avail, the ball rattling his leg stump. That was quick, and superbly directed, and the Kiwis' demise continues.

Now Guptill's gone! Smith brings Head on to bowl a bit of spin and very first ball the opener goes after him outside off only managing to hit it in the air to George Bailey at a shortish mid-off. Was travelling, and above his head, but he held it comfortably, and now the Kiwis are in a bit of strife!

Nearly two in two balls!

That was the last ball of the over, Guptill's on strike to Cummins and he's nearly gone! Cuts uppishly and Steve Smith in gully launches himself and nearly pulls off another incredible catch in a replay of that blinder in Sydney. This time, it just escapes his clutching hand and goes away for four.

wicket!

Wicket! NZ 2/74

Williamson is gone, LBW to Faulkner, gets a little movement towards leg and it beats the skipper and raps him on the pad. He asks for the review, but no joy there, ball tracking shows it would have taken leg stump comfortably. Big blow to NZ's hopes.

Guptill gets going

He's now 24 from 30 balls after a lovely little flick off the hip to Cummins, just helped a quick delivery on its way and it's four more. Slow to start, but he's making up for lost time!

Williamson finding early touch

Great square drive from the skipper, Faulkner is wide outside off and he reaches out and massages it to the point boundary. No chance of stopping that. He's up to 11, Kiwis 1/63 from 12 overs, up with the required run rate.

Guptill settling in

Skipper Kane Williamson is the new batsman, lot of responsibility with this pair, but they've done it before. And on cue, Guptill hits his first boundary, a nice glance off Faulkner to the fine leg boundary. And now his partner is off the mark with a four, Williamson just punching Cummins past mid-on to the rope. NZ 1/53 in the 11th over.

wicket!

Wicket! NZ 1/44

Cummins strikes! Coming around the wicket, pitches outside off, Latham tries to hit him through leg-side, but instead just steers a simple catch to Faulkner at square leg! That's a blow, the Kiwi left-hander looked in really good touch.
