Circa

Circa (from Latin, meaning "around, about"), usually abbreviated c., ca or ca. (also circ. or cca.), means "approximately" in several European languages including English, usually in reference to a date.Circa is widely used in genealogy and historical writing when the dates of events are not accurately known. When used in date ranges, circa is applied before each approximate date, while dates without circa immediately preceding them are generally assumed to be known with certainty. For example:

Circa Survive

Circa Survive is an American rock band from the Philadelphia suburb of Doylestown, formed in 2004. The band consists of former members from Saosin, This Day Forward, and Taken.

The band quickly made a name for themselves in the indie music scene in little over two years with their first album, Juturna, released on April 9, 2005, and second album, On Letting Go, released on May 29, 2007, both released on Equal Vision Records. Their third album, Blue Sky Noise, was released on April 20, 2010, on Atlantic Records to critical acclaim. After parting ways with Atlantic Records, their fourth album, Violent Waves, was released independently on August 28, 2012. Their fifth album, Descensus, was released by Sumerian Records on November 24, 2014.

History

Formation (2004–2005)

After going back to his hometown of Philadelphia for a dentist appointment and to visit his girlfriend Meredith, Anthony Green went to the airport to return to California to work with the band Saosin, of which he was the lead singer. However, while on a layover in Phoenix, he suddenly had an epiphany – despite the fact that Saosin was close to success, he knew he would be miserable if he returned. When asked about his decision to leave home he said, "I left primarily because I didn't want to sign to a major label in that band." Green also said that another reason for leaving Saosin was because he was very homesick and missing his family. Green returned to Colin Frangicetto, a friend with whom he had "jammed" during his stay, and they decided to begin recording and recruiting. Thus, Circa Survive was born.

Music video

A music video or song video is a short film integrating a song and imagery, produced for promotional or artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a marketing device intended to promote the sale of music recordings. There are also cases where songs are used in tie in marketing campaigns that allow them to become more than just a song. Tie ins and merchandising could be used in toys are marketing campaigns for food and other products. Although the origins of music videos date back to musical short films that first appeared in the 1920s, they came into prominence in the 1980s when MTV based their format around the medium. Prior to the 1980s, these works were described by various terms including "illustrated song", "filmed insert", "promotional (promo) film", "promotional clip", "promotional video", "song video", "song clip" or "film clip". Since the creation and increased popularity of YouTube, mainstream artists now promote new music videos by releasing trailers of short promos on the site for their upcoming song and music video. Consequentially, YouTube has been converted into a social media platform for celebrities and artists to market themselves to their fans and audiences.
