DNA (Wanessa album)

DNA is the seventh studio album by Brazilian recording artist Wanessa, released on July 28, 2011 by Sony Music Entertainment.

Production

Musically, the album was influenced by contemporary pop, and other genres, with elements like funk carioca and R&B. DNA was produced by Mr. Jam and Dennonyx. The first information about DNA appeared in 2010 in an interview with radio Transamerica, revealing that the album would be entirely in English. The recording sessions started in São Paulo, Brazil and it was finished and mastered in New York, in the Sterling Sound Studios.

Background

On November 13, 2010 Wanessa revealed in an interview for the radio Transamerica her new album was recorded in early 2011, with an electropop dance sound, and would include the four songs from her EP "Party Line", "Stuck on Repeat", "Falling For U" and "Worth It". On January 8, 2011, against the comments that it would launch an international album, Wanessa, in an interview for Rolling Stone Brazil said that, her plans were to set herself in Brazil. In the same interview, the singer said she would be entering the studio to release her album at the end of March, which would be entirely in English and focusing on pop and a remix of the single "Stuck On Repeat", produced by American DJ Dave Aude, known by his work with Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff and Lady Gaga.

Shapeshifter (band)

Shapeshifter (sometimes referred to as New Zealand Shapeshifter) are a live drum and bass act from New Zealand. They are known for their live shows and blend of heavy soul with drum and bass. They have made appearances at Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Big Day Out, Parklife plus sold-out performances across Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

History and Biography

Shapeshifter formed in 1999 after the four founding members met at Jazz School. They had a range of musical backgrounds ranging from dub, jazz, and hip-hop, to metal, funk and electronica. As a result, they decided to bring these influences together to create live drum & bass. After playing locally, they released an early EP entitled D.N.A.

In 2001, Shapeshifter released their debut LP entitled Realtime. The album included a collaboration with vocalist Ladi6 on the track "Move With Me" as well as Kaps (Fabel) and Tiki (Salmonella Dub) on production. Realtime was awarded the 'Best Electronic Release' title at the 2002 bNet NZ Music Awards, and was also nominated at the RIANZ NZ Music Awards for 'Best Electronic Album'

Kollekt

Kollekt is the sixth album by the Finnish experimental rock band Circle, led by bass guitarist Jussi Lehtisalo. It was released in 1998 by Bad Vugum. It collects the band's early singles, and previously unreleased songs from sessions for their first album, Meronia.

Wings (Ringo Starr song)

"Wings" is a song by Ringo Starr, originally recorded for and released as a single from, the album Ringo the 4th. It was co-written with Vini Poncia in 1977. Starr later re-recorded it, produced by Starr and Bruce Sugar, and released it as a single from his 2012 studio album, Ringo 2012.

Recording

"Wings" was re-recorded for Ringo 2012. Starr on the 2012 re-recording: "This is a song I first recorded on Ringo the 4th back when an album meant vinyl. These are different days, and it's one of those songs I always wanted to revisit. I wrote "Wings" with Vinnie Poncia in New York, and he doesn't know I've done this yet. I'm going to surprise Vinnie and send it to him...For the last two years, I've been listening to a lot of reggae, so this album has a reggae feel to it. What can I tell you? I'm a product of my environment. I always loved the sentiment of this song, and I'm glad we finally got it right." A live version by Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band recorded live in Atlanta, was released on the Hurricane Sandy charity compilation, Songs After Sandy: Friends of Red Hook for Sandy Relief.

Wings (1968 band)

Wings was a folk rock band from the late sixties (not to be confused with the band later formed by Paul McCartney). The band members were veterans from an assortment of other sixties bands. Initially, the band was made up of Oz Bach of Spanky and Our Gang on bass, Pam Robins of Serendipity Singers sang, and on guitar Eddie Simon, younger brother of Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel. Before their first and only album was recorded, Eddie Simon was replaced with Jim Mason who co-wrote the Peter, Paul and Mary song "I Dig Rock and Roll Music". Also playing in the band were keyboardist Steve Knight, who later joined Mountain, Jefferson Airplane drummer Jerry Peloquin, and guitarist Jack McNichol.

History

In the summer of 1968, the band began playing as an opening act for Big Brother and the Holding Company and Sly and the Family Stone. They soon signed to the record label ABC Dunhill Records, and recorded their only album at Sunset Sound with producer Steve Barri.

The band's name comes from a small slip of paper that was sent to Jim Mason with the word "Wings" written on it.
