Asia

Asia (ⁱ/ˈeɪʒə/ or /ˈeɪʃə/) is the Earth's largest and most populous continent, located primarily in the eastern and northern hemispheres. Asia covers an area of 44,579,000 square kilometers, about 30% of Earth's total land area and 8.7% of the Earth's total surface area. It has historically been home to the world's first modern civilizations and has always hosted the bulk of the planet's human population. Asia is notable for not only overall large size and population, but unusually dense and large settlements as well as vast barely populated regions within the continent of 4.4 billion people. The boundaries of Asia are traditionally determined as that of Eurasia, as there is no significant geographical separation between Asia and Europe. The most commonly accepted boundaries place Asia to the east of the Suez Canal, the Ural River, and the Ural Mountains, and south of the Caucasus Mountains and the Caspian and Black Seas. It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Arctic Ocean.

Wnn

Wnn (Japanese pronunciation: [ɯnnɯ] or [ɯːnnɯ]) is a Japanese input system. The network-extensible Kana-to-Kanji conversion system was jointly developed and released by the Software Research Group of Kyoto University Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Omron Tateisi Electronics Co., and Astec, Inc.

It is distributed as freeware with a licence allowing users to copy and modify the software; however, it is not free software since certain restrictions are placed on the user, including a prohibition on changing the name. The licence is otherwise similar to the (old, containing the advertising clause) BSD licence.

Wnn is used as part of several programs that deal with Japanese text, including JWPce and NJStar's Japanese Word Processor.

The name is derived from the Japanese phrase "Watashi no namae wa Nakano desu" (my name is Nakano), as a design goal of the Wnn project was to be able to enter such a sentence, and have the correct kanji and kana [私の名前は中野です] selected automatically.

Wnn is maintained by the FreeWnn project.

Tom James

Thomas James MBE (born 11 March 1984) is a Welsh rower, twice Olympic champion and victorious Cambridge Blue.

Early life

James was born in Cardiff on 11 March 1984, but considers his hometown to be the village of Coedpoeth, near Wrexham.

Education

James was educated at Packwood Haugh School near Ruyton-XI-Towns, and then at The King's School, Chester, where he took up the sport of rowing. He went up to Trinity Hall, Cambridge in 2002, obtaining his undergraduate degree in engineering in 2007.

The Boat Race

Whilst at Cambridge University, James was a member of Cambridge University Boat Club (CUBC) and took part in The Boat Race four times in five years between 2003 and 2007 (taking a year off to train for the 2004 Summer Olympics). He was elected president of CUBC for the 2006–07 academic year.

Having concentrated his efforts on the Olympics in 2004, James returned to Cambridge in 2005. Both universities had extremely strong intakes that year, with Cambridge boasting several world champions and the Oxford crew including Olympic silver medalist Barney Williams. Oxford won the epic contest by 2 lengths in a time of 16 minutes 41 seconds. In 2006, the weather was particularly bad, and Cambridge lost again, this time by 5 lengths.

Asia Business News

Asia Business News (ABN) was a business news television channel owned by Dow Jones and Company. It was founded on November 1, 1993 and it was based in Singapore. It was the sister network of London-based European Business News (EBN). On 2 February 1998 the channel merged with NBC's CNBC Asia. Initially, most of ABN's programmes and presenters migrated to the new channel and it operated from ABN's former headquarters in Singapore. The merged channel was initially named CNBC Asia Business News but on June 1, 1998 it was simply referred to as CNBC Asia.
