The GEVOs are finally here!
I present you with, after years of waiting, a quasi review of the Intermountain HO Scale FEC ES44C4 locomotives! These models are designed after the real deal which is the current face of the Florida East Coast Railway and pulls much of the road traffic on the railroad. This is the first video of the engines in live action!!
The images and audio will do most of the review for us here. Most of it is truthfully model railfanning, where the GEVOs work various road trains! Look out for hotshot 101 with the standard two GEVO lashup!
I will be concise with my thoughts on them; they are simply awesome and very well detailed! Many of the unique features have been nailed by the design team, including the elevated walkway on the conductor's side, the unique A-1-A trucks, among other features. The only visuals that are off is the white cheatline on the conductor's side near the cab, which isn't supposed to be there, and by a very slight bit the lettering font.
Pulling power has been a point of debate for these motors. As seen, two motors can clearly pull a 30 carlength intermodal train at a good clip. Word on the street is one GEVO can pull 57 cars on level terrain. Florida is level in general so this is a factor I would not personally worry about.
Loksound and locomotive operations are also excellent with autostart, engine cooling, lighting effects, and other features. Note that if you choose the smart start, on default the engines will not move for one minute.
Overall I recommend these units! Simply awesome and a must have for FEC layouts. Decent value for the $240-300 price point.

Florida East Coast Railway
The Florida East Coast Railway (reporting mark FEC) is a Class II railroad operating in the U.S. state of Florida and since 2007 has been a subsidiary of Railroad Acquisition Holdings, LLC, itself a subsidiary of Fortress Investment Group, LLC.
The FEC was historically a Class I railroad owned by Florida East Coast Industries (FECI) from 2000-2006, FOXX Holdings from 1983-2000, and the St. Joseph Paper Company prior to 1983.
Built primarily in the last quarter of the 19th century and the first decade of the 20th century, the FEC was a project of Standard Oil principal Henry Morrison Flagler. Flagler originally visited Florida to aid with the health issues faced by his first wife, Mary. A key strategist who worked closely with John D. Rockefeller building the Standard Oil Trust, Henry Flagler noted both a lack of services and great potential during his stay at St. Augustine. He subsequently began what amounted to his second career developing resorts, industries, and communities all along Florida's shores abutting the Atlantic Ocean.

The GEVOs are finally here! I present you with, after years of waiting, a quasi review of the Intermountain HO Scale FEC ES44C4 locomotives! These models are designed after the real deal which is the current face of the Florida East Coast Railway and pulls much of the road traffic on the railroad. This is the first video of the engines in live action!! The images and audio will do most of the review for us here. Most of it is truthfully model railfanning, where the GEVOs work various road trains! Look out for hotshot 101 with the standard two GEVO lashup! I will be concise with my thoughts on them; they are simply awesome and very well detailed! Many of the unique features have been nailed by the design team, including the elevated walkway on the conductor's side, the unique A-1-A trucks, among other features. The only visuals that are off is the white cheatline on the conductor's side near the cab, which isn't supposed to be there, and by a very slight bit the lettering font.
