Bahen (Sister) is a 1941 Hindi film directed by Mehboob Khan. Sagar Movietone had closed down during the start of WW II and reformed as National Studios. It was under the new banner that Mehboob Khan produced his three important films of that time, Aurat (1940), Bahen (1941) and Roti (1942). Written by Babubhai Mehta and Zia Sarhadi, it had dialogues and screenplay by Wajahat Mirza. The cinematography was by Faredoon Irani. Anil Biswas was the music director with lyrics by Safdar Aah. The cast included Sheikh Mukhtar, Nalini Jaywant, Harish, Kanhaiyalal, Husn Bano, Swaroop Rani, Baby Meena (Meena Kumari) and Bhudo Advani.
It was the first film of Nalini Jaywant; she played the younger sister to Sheikh Mukhtar, who takes her responsibility after their parents perish in an earthquake. He lives for her and does everything required to keep her safe and happy even to the extent of moving and changing his job many times. So much so that he doesn't realize that she has grown up and needs to live her own life. The film brought Jaywant into prominence.
Having saved his little sister Bina (Baby Meena Kumari) from the floods, Amar (Sheikh Mukhtar) becomes increasingly possessive about her over the years. Amar falls in love twice but forgoes marriage so he can look after the growing Bina. Bina (Nalini Jaywant), now a grown up young girl falls in love with the social activist Rajendra (Harish). However, Amar can not bear to lose Bina and so he plans her marriage to the thief Moti Kanhaiyalal, with the idea that he'll get her divorced after some time and then Bina would stay with him always. After several incidents that end up uniting Rajendra and Bina, Amar gets some happiness when a daughter is born to Bina.

Nawab Sahib (Badri Prasad) lives with his wife, the Begum (Pratima Devi) and their young daughter Suraiya (Munawwar Sultana). While attending a function at an orphanage, he becomes impressed by a student, Iqbal (Nusrat) and brings him home. After some initial friction Suraiya and the boy become friends. Iqbal grows up to become a doctor while Suraiya falls in love with him. She gifts him a big diamond ring. A friend (Husn Banu) of Suraiya's takes great pleasure in teasing the two, which Suraiya doesn't mind but is frowned upon by Iqbal.
Iqbal decides to serve at a village where there is an outbreak of plague. Here he meets Hamida (Suraiya) and the two fall in love in-between his ministrations to the sick. One of the villagers, Dilawar (Shyam Kumar), is a suitor of Hamida and jealous of the love interest between Hamida and Iqbal. Dilawar blackmails Iqbal about their romance, threatening to inform Nawab Sahib unless Iqbal gives him Rs. 10, 000. A scared Iqbal gives Dilawar the diamond ring gifted to him by Suraiya. Iqbal falls ill and the Nawab arrives with an ambulance to take him home. Hamida's father is killed by Dilawar, who then proceeds to lie to Hamida, telling her that Iqbal had left the ring for her and gives it to her. Hamida accepts it and wears it on her finger.
Hamida is taken in by the Nawab who brings her back to his house. Misunderstandings arise between Iqbal and Hamida when he sees the ring. The two however get back together again with their differences resolved. . Suraiya in the meanwhile shows symptoms of consumption, with coughing and fever. A marriage is arranged between her and Iqbal. Suraiya finds out about their love and she sacrifices her love for the two and dies.

Husn Banu Ghazanfar
Prof. Husn Banu Ghazanfar (born: February 1, 1957) is a politician in Afghanistan, serving as the Minister of Women's Affairs. She is also a writer, a poet, and a speaker.
Early life and education
Ghazanfar, daughter of Abdul Ghafar, was born in Balkh Province on February 1, 1957. She graduated from Sultan Razia High School in Mazar-e-Sharif and obtained her BA and Master's degree on Literature and Sociology from Stawarpool Qafqaaz. In around 1983 she was involved in Kabul University's Literature Faculty program. About two years later, she went to Petersburg, Russia, to obtain her Doctrine on Philology. An ethnic Uzbek, she is fluent in Dari (Persian), Pashto, Uzbek, Russian, and she knows a little Turkish and English.
Careers
In 2003, she was appointed as the Head of the Literature Faculty. In July 2006, Ghazanfar received vote of confidence from the National Assembly of Afghanistan (Parliament) to become Minister of Women's Affairs.

Bahen (Sister) is a 1941 Hindi film directed by Mehboob Khan. Sagar Movietone had closed down during the start of WW II and reformed as National Studios. It was under the new banner that Mehboob Khan produced his three important films of that time, Aurat (1940), Bahen (1941) and Roti (1942). Written by Babubhai Mehta and Zia Sarhadi, it had dialogues and screenplay by Wajahat Mirza. The cinematography was by Faredoon Irani. Anil Biswas was the music director with lyrics by Safdar Aah. The cast included Sheikh Mukhtar, Nalini Jaywant, Harish, Kanhaiyalal, Husn Bano, Swaroop Rani, Baby Meena (Meena Kumari) and Bhudo Advani.
It was the first film of Nalini Jaywant; she played the younger sister to Sheikh Mukhtar, who takes her responsibility after their parents perish in an earthquake. He lives for her and does everything required to keep her safe and happy even to the extent of moving and changing his job many times. So much so that he doesn't realize that she has grown up and needs to live her own life. The film brought Jaywant into prominence.
Having saved his little sister Bina (Baby Meena Kumari) from the floods, Amar (Sheikh Mukhtar) becomes increasingly possessive about her over the years. Amar falls in love twice but forgoes marriage so he can look after the growing Bina. Bina (Nalini Jaywant), now a grown up young girl falls in love with the social activist Rajendra (Harish). However, Amar can not bear to lose Bina and so he plans her marriage to the thief Moti Kanhaiyalal, with the idea that he'll get her divorced after some time and then Bina would stay with him always. After several incidents that end up uniting Rajendra and Bina, Amar gets some happiness when a daughter is born to Bina.

Nawab Sahib (Badri Prasad) lives with his wife, the Begum (Pratima Devi) and their young daughter Suraiya (Munawwar Sultana). While attending a function at an orphanage, he becomes impressed by a student, Iqbal (Nusrat) and brings him home. After some initial friction Suraiya and the boy become friends. Iqbal grows up to become a doctor while Suraiya falls in love with him. She gifts him a big diamond ring. A friend (Husn Banu) of Suraiya's takes great pleasure in teasing the two, which Suraiya doesn't mind but is frowned upon by Iqbal.
Iqbal decides to serve at a village where there is an outbreak of plague. Here he meets Hamida (Suraiya) and the two fall in love in-between his ministrations to the sick. One of the villagers, Dilawar (Shyam Kumar), is a suitor of Hamida and jealous of the love interest between Hamida and Iqbal. Dilawar blackmails Iqbal about their romance, threatening to inform Nawab Sahib unless Iqbal gives him Rs. 10, 000. A scared Iqbal gives Dilawar the diamond ring gifted to him by Suraiya. Iqbal falls ill and the Nawab arrives with an ambulance to take him home. Hamida's father is killed by Dilawar, who then proceeds to lie to Hamida, telling her that Iqbal had left the ring for her and gives it to her. Hamida accepts it and wears it on her finger.
Hamida is taken in by the Nawab who brings her back to his house. Misunderstandings arise between Iqbal and Hamida when he sees the ring. The two however get back together again with their differences resolved. . Suraiya in the meanwhile shows symptoms of consumption, with coughing and fever. A marriage is arranged between her and Iqbal. Suraiya finds out about their love and she sacrifices her love for the two and dies.
