The question now is whether South Australia's uncapped paceman Chadd Sayers has done enough to tip out Tasmania's Jackson Bird from the XI. Sayers starred in the pink-ball round of the Shield this week, collecting an eight-wicket haul to bowl his team to victory against NSW.
Bird, however, has a strong case for retention after claiming three wickets in the consolation win over South Africa, including the key scalp of Quinton de Kock on the final day.
With Shaun Marsh still injured, Nic Maddinson has retained his place in the squad after a duck on debut. Marsh is recovering from finger surgery and though he was expected to return this series that must now be in doubt.
"Shaun has yet to resume batting and will have a follow-up X-ray this week that will be reviewed by a specialist. This will determine when he can resume cricket training," team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
Squad: Steve Smith (C), David Warner, Matt Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird, Chadd Sayers
