About BMW

Bayerische Motoren Werke first took off in 1916 as a result of mergers and morphing of aircraft-industry companies, though its famous roundel logo forms one of the great automotive myths as its blue and white quadrants represent the Bavarian state colours rather than a spinning propeller. BMW built its first motorcycle (the R32) in 1923 and its first car nine years later. In 1933 the 303 became the first BMW to feature the company’s now-trademark double-kidney grille. The 1936 328 started a wonderful roadster lineage that also includes the 507, though sporty BMWs today are more closely associated with its high-performance coupes and sedans – including the M3 that tops its signature model line, the 3 Series – from its heralded M division. Driving dynamics have been a central theme to all BMWs, though in 2013 the i3 electric car was launched as the first in a new range of efficiency-focused vehicles. The broader BMW Group owns the Mini and Rolls-Royce brands.
