The Burren is a karst landscape region in north-west Co. Clare in Ireland. It is one of the largest karst regions in Europe. I have been photographing The Burren over the last 5 years, and recently got into time lapse photography. The Burren was an obvious place for me to do this first video.
There's a detailed HOWTO available on how I did this, including construction details on the rail, motor controller in the form of a Raspberry Pi computer, and some info on a DIY dew heater to keep condensation off the lens during cold shoots. http://davidhunt.ie/?p=2822 . From the Irish 'Boíreann' meaning a rocky place, the rolling hills of the Burren are composed of limestone pavements criss-crossed and gouged by fissures called grykes, leaving clints - raised, slab-like flat areas. The limestone, laid down in a shallow tropical sea in the Lower Carboniferous some 350 million years ago, has been shaped by episodes of glaciation, most recently during the last Ice Age. Covering roughly 360 square kilometres, parts of this karst landscape lie in one of Ireland's six national parks. The Burren boasts the most extensive area of limestone pavement in Europe, harbours a unique floral diversity with Arctic, Mediterranean and Alpine flowers blooming side by side, and is one of the finest examples of a glacio-karst landscape in the world.
The rocky landscape that we see today is not just the result of glacial erosion and natural weathering, but also 6,000 years of agricultural activity. The Burren has been settled since the Mesolithic and boasts a cornucopia of archaeological monuments from the stone walled field systems and megalithic structures of the Neolithic, including the well preserved portal dolmen at Poulnabrone, to later Bronze Age settlements, Iron Age hill forts and Medieval churches. A landscape rich in both nature and lore, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark, managed by Clare County Council, is a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.
Walkers will be amply rewarded by the extraordinary preservation of natural and cultural heritage; the extent of the limestone pavement with its sculpted surfaces, cliffs and whorls; shady narrow country lanes lined with hazel scrub; reed fringed aquamarine turloughs and dramatic views of the wave washed Wild Atlantic Way coastline that includes the famous Cliffs of Moher. The Burren in spring is the very stuff of dreams as the landscape is literally misty with flowers.
We consider the Burren in County Clare, to be Ireland's most unusual, striking and memorable landscape. It is our favourite part of this island. Featuring panoramas, time-lapse and medium close-up shots of the various flowers, our footage, to make the fourth in our 'Wild Ireland' series, was captured in 4K over three visits from early-May to mid-June, when the flora is at its very best. The Burren
The Burren (Irish: Boireann, meaning "great rock") is a karst landscape in County Clare, Ireland. It measures approximately 250 square kilometres and is enclosed roughly within the circle made by the villages of Ballyvaughan, Kinvara, Tubber, Corofin, Kilfenora and Lisdoonvarna.
The Burren National Park is one of six National Parks in Ireland and the smallest in size (15 km2).The Burren National Park Visitor Centre is located on Church Street in Corofin, County Clare, Ireland.
History
The Burren area formed part of the territory of Corco Modhruadh, meaning "seed or people of Modhruadh" which was coextensive with the diocese of Kilfenora. At some point around the 12th century, the territory was divided in two: Corco Modhruadh Iartharach ("Western Corcomroe") and Corco Modhruadh Oirthearach ("Eastern Corcomroe") also known as Boireann which in the late 16th century became the English administrative baronies of Corcomroe and Burren respectively. The O'Loughlin (Ó Lochlainn) clan ruled Boireann down to the mid-17th century from their chief residence at Gragans Castle (towerhouse not the house of the same name). The chief of the family was known in later times as the 'Prince of Burren' and clan members were buried in the family tomb near the altar of Corcomroe Abbey. Their kinsmen the O'Connor (Ó Conchubhair) clan ruled Corco Modhruadh Iartharach from Dough Castle near Liscannor. The villages and towns found within the medieval territory of Boireann include Lisdoonvarna, Ballyvaughan, New Quay / Burrin (Burren), Noughaval, Bealaclugga (Bellharbour), Carron and Fanore / Craggagh.

Ben Howard
Benjamin John "Ben" Howard (born 24 April 1987) is an English singer-songwriter. He self-released his debut EP Games in the Dark (2008) followed by two more EPs, These Waters (2009) and Old Pine (2010). He is currently signed to Island and Communion. His major debut studio album came in 2011 titled Every Kingdom followed by two more EP releases, Ben Howard Live (2011) and The Burgh Island E.P. (2012).
At the 2013 Brit Awards he received the Brit Award for British Male Solo Artist. He performed at 2013 Glastonbury festival on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday 29 June. He released his second studio album, I Forget Where We Were, in October 2014.
Early life
He was born in Middlesex,London in 1987 and moved near Totnes, Devon when he was about eight. He was raised by musical parents who exposed him to their favourite records from singer-songwriter artists from the 1960s and 1970s at an early age, such as John Martyn, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel, by whom he was strongly influenced.

From the Irish 'Boíreann' meaning a rocky place, the rolling hills of the Burren are composed of limestone pavements criss-crossed and gouged by fissures called grykes, leaving clints - raised, slab-like flat areas. The limestone, laid down in a shallow tropical sea in the Lower Carboniferous some 350 million years ago, has been shaped by episodes of glaciation, most recently during the last Ice Age. Covering roughly 360 square kilometres, parts of this karst landscape lie in one of Ireland's six national parks. The Burren boasts the most extensive area of limestone pavement in Europe, harbours a unique floral diversity with Arctic, Mediterranean and Alpine flowers blooming side by side, and is one of the finest examples of a glacio-karst landscape in the world.
The rocky landscape that we see today is not just the result of glacial erosion and natural weathering, but also 6,000 years of agricultural activity. The Burren has been settled since the Mesolithic and boasts a cornucopia of archaeological monuments from the stone walled field systems and megalithic structures of the Neolithic, including the well preserved portal dolmen at Poulnabrone, to later Bronze Age settlements, Iron Age hill forts and Medieval churches. A landscape rich in both nature and lore, the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Geopark, managed by Clare County Council, is a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.
Walkers will be amply rewarded by the extraordinary preservation of natural and cultural heritage; the extent of the limestone pavement with its sculpted surfaces, cliffs and whorls; shady narrow country lanes lined with hazel scrub; reed fringed aquamarine turloughs and dramatic views of the wave washed Wild Atlantic Way coastline that includes the famous Cliffs of Moher. The Burren in spring is the very stuff of dreams as the landscape is literally misty with flowers.
We consider the Burren in County Clare, to be Ireland's most unusual, striking and memorable landscape. It is our favourite part of this island. Featuring panoramas, time-lapse and medium close-up shots of the various flowers, our footage, to make the fourth in our 'Wild Ireland' series, was captured in 4K over three visits from early-May to mid-June, when the flora is at its very best. Arriving at the Cliffs of Moher you benefit from having a premium admittance ticket to the Atlantic Edge an exciting interpretive centre and a new Visitor Experience.
