He recently sold a 14.522ac field located at Cloneen, Crettyard on the Laois Kilkenny border for €154,000 or just over €10,600/ac.

Laid out in a number of different fields with road frontage on to the main Castlecomer to Athy Road, the land is described as good farming ground in a good farming area.

A crowd of 22 people turned up for the auction and with three bidders taking to the field, the action got under way with an opening offer of €100,000. At €142,000, the place was put on the market and sold at €154,000 to a man with a farming background from Conahy, Co Kilkenny 12km away.

Staying in Conahy, a number of weeks ago, Mr Coogan sold a 10ac field located in the said parish for €122,000.

Two local dairy farmers battled it out to pay €12,200/ac for the prized piece of ground.

Described as a 'lovely, dry field' with good road frontage located 5km from Castlecomer the place was bought by an adjoining dairy man.
