Today's Tour de France stage, which aired this morning and has just begun again in prime time, features some nice aerial shots of the Fort de Joux, where Toussaint Louverture was imprisoned and died. Quite an impressive edifice.

Why wouldn't Napoleon just kill the Spanish royal family? Maybe I've been watching too much game of thrones but with all these people pledging loyalty to someone you have in a jail cell this doesn't make sense to me.

Napoleon wasn't truly a bad guy. A complicated, highly intelligent guy who made occasional poor decisions, yes. But not truly bad.
