It was Sydney songstress Montaigne's big moment, winning the ARIA Award for breakthrough artist at Wednesday evening's ceremony to rapturous applause.
But in a panic the 21-year-old detoured from her planned acceptance speech and instead went on to talk about her bowel movements in an address she later admitted was "incomprehensible".

Worst acceptance speech ever?
Montaigne had her acceptance speech on her phone, but decided to ad-lib it instead, with interesting results.
Winning her first gong for debut album Glorious Heights, the singer (real name Jessica Cerro) mumbled about her need to stay humble, the fact she had bowel movements three times a week and how the ARIA gong was "just a thing".
"My old mate the real Montaigne, a French philosopher from like centuries ago, once said a thing which was...uh....well," she said trying to find the quote from her namesake on her phone. "It was that on the highest throne in the world we still sit only on our bottoms."
"ARIA, you've gifted me this pointy spear of recognition which I really appreciate, but of course I must remember that for the rest of my life I will probably eject at least three loads out of my butt every week at least three times and along with other...like a million other humans at the same time," she said.
"I'm human like everyone else and I must stay modest. This is just a thing. Thank you so much but yeah, like, the recognition's amazing but I'm going to stay on my feet. This is...uh...this is...I should have just read it verbatim," Cerro said to laughter from the crowd.
As the speech was broadcast on Ten, confused viewers asked on social media, "What the heck am I watching?"
"What the f$&k; is she saying?" tweeted singer Tim Campbell.

Cerro cleared up the calamity on Twitter afterward, revealing she had prepared something in the case of her win but "for some stupid reason" tried to wing it.
"It was actually a very clever speech but now look what happened," she tweeted.
Recovering, she thanked her fellow nominees LDRU, Olympia, Safia and DMA's for "setting such a high standard" and reminded the audience to "support the arts" and "stay hydrated".
The singer also made a political statement on the night by painting the message "people over profit" on her chest.
It was an ARIA ceremony full of bold statements, with Troye Sivan dedicating his win to "every LGBT kid in Australia" and Kylie Minogue calling for marriage quality.
So you're probably wondering why my speech was incomprehensible

It's because I wrote something COMPLETELY COMPREHENSIBLE and then decided FOR SOME STUPID REASON not to read it
