Cnut the Great (Old Norse: Knútr inn ríki;c. 995– 12 November 1035), more commonly known as Canute, was a king of Denmark, England, Norway and parts of Sweden, together often referred to as the Anglo-Scandinavian or North Sea Empire. After his death, the deaths of his heirs within a decade, and the Norman conquest of England in 1066, his legacy was largely lost to history. The medieval historian Norman Cantor has made the statement that he was "the most effective king in Anglo-Saxon history", although Cnut himself was Danish not British or Anglo-Saxon.
Cnut's name is popularly invoked in the context of the legendary story of King Canute and the waves, but usually misrepresenting Cnut (Canute) as a deluded monarch believing he had supernatural powers, when the original story in fact relates the opposite and portrays a wise king.
Cnut's father was Sweyn Forkbeard, King of Denmark (which gave Cnut the patronym Sweynsson, Old Norse Sveinsson). The identity of his mother is uncertain, although medieval tradition makes her a daughter of Mieszko I. As a Danish prince, Cnut won the throne of England in 1016 in the wake of centuries of Viking activity in northwestern Europe. His accession to the Danish throne in 1018 brought the crowns of England and Denmark together. Cnut maintained his power by uniting Danes and English under cultural bonds of wealth and custom, rather than by sheer brutality. After a decade of conflict with opponents in Scandinavia, Cnut claimed the crown of Norway in Trondheim in 1028. The Swedish city Sigtuna was held by Cnut. He had coins struck there that called him king, but there is no narrative record of his occupation.

From the BBC documentary series 'Blood of the Vikings' (2001) presented by Julian Richards. "But today people only remember one story about Canute. ... We all know the story, but where did it come from? It's first mentioned in the 'Historia Anglorum', a 12th-century mixture of history and moral fables. This tells us that Canute gave orders for his throne to be placed on the seashore as the tide was coming in, and that the king commanded the water not to rise and wet his clothes or feet. The tide obviously ignored the king's commands. But what came next in the story isn't often mentioned. Canute is actually making a point - that no matter what his courtiers may think, he's just a man. "'Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the nam...

Actually he was long and correctly remembered as the man who tried to stop the tide of servile and even impious flattery directed his way. He may have been a Danish interloper on the English throne, but he set a standard for humility in a monarch that has sadly decayed lately along with our historical memory.

I meet with Stephen Auker 'AKA' TheManWithTheHat, Garry Bowes & Derek Cantwell for our first little group dig. I find my FIRST piece of Saxon & FIRST Tudor half groat. Lots of great finds made by all. Stephen executes a take down on Derek for finding yet another ring on his permissions. Garry spots a Roman Brooch with eyes only! Joy, Devastation & Blessings for me in this video also, as I curse myself for breaking the Saxon coin. I give it to Stephen because I could not live with the reminder of my mistake. The coin was very kindly offered back to me after being professionally restored by a friend of Stephens. One of the best hunt's ever for me!

Fantastic and well-considered documentary by the noted scholar, Dr Francis Pryor. The names Cerdic, Ceawlin, Cedda and Caedwalla are not exactly Germanic in origin? Cerdic's father, Elesa, has been identified by some scholars with the Romano-Briton Elasius, the "chief of the region," met by Germanus of Auxerre. Lars Von Tripod is a maestro at making films. He is also extremely demanding and has a penchant for smashing chairs. The spies gain some intelligence about Von Tripod and his team: for decades every time he has made a film a valuable artefact has been stolen. The team decide to lure Von Tripod to St Hope's with a script that features three ordinary school pupils, who are also spies. The plan is for Rose and Oscar to audition for the parts and therefore allow them to keep an eye on the bait. The bait is King Canute's sceptre and sandals, worth millions of pounds, just the kind of artefact likely to be stolen on one of his films.

There have been changes to this video as of September 5th 2016 due to a piece of footage believed to be first published on June 24th this year that was actually filmed on 28th June 2011 as just pointed out to me in the comments section by Asphalt Winter Prepper. First, a million apologies. I had already waited more than a month longer than an expected release date to find corroboration for the expected June/July 2016 passing. This means I have three corroborations for this passing not four. Though it does not effect the timeline and it still stands as before this earlier sighting that has come to light on the 29th June 2011 demonstrates to me we have a window on what we can expect as just before this new passing, which now becomes the first occurring followed the Fukushima Tsunami which ...
In the Hunt (海底大戦争 Kaitei Daisensou?) is a horizontal scrolling shooter arcade game by Irem. It was released in 1993 and later ported to the Sega Saturn, the PlayStation and Windows 95 for the PC by Kokopeli. A Super NES version was in development, with a playable version appearing at a Consumer Electronics Show, but it was never completed. The player takes the role of a submarine in underwater environments. There are a total of six levels in the game. The game was developed by the team who would go on to create GunForce 2 for Irem and the Metal Slug series for SNK. Electronic Gaming Monthly gave the PlayStation version a positive review, with their four reviewers particularly praising the huge number of enemies on-screen for the bulk of the game and the minimal slowdown. King Canute couldn't stop the tide
Please sign here for a mail-order bride
I'm sure you know that the tide is unstoppable
But for me you were the brightest possible
You can't stop the tide
Find me a bride
You can't stop the tide
Find me a way to show that this could be probable
We all think our minds are unstoppable
We all need, we need a little help
To show everyone that we can be tiny elves
Thor and his hammer couldn't stop my storm
Right on to his fancy cuz no one was born
I couldn't be the god of thunder
But I'm sure I could have a baby blunder
And I can't stop the storm
No one was born
I can't stop the storm
No one was able to show that this could be probable
We all think our minds are unstoppable
We all need, we need a little help
