Nigeria’s military has released videos of its ongoing counter-terrorism operations to dislodge Boko Haram terrorists inside the notorious Sambisa Forest.
The video showed the dexterity of Nigerian Air Force pilots, as they taunt the terrorists, with hundreds of them running helter-skelter and fleeing into different directions.
In another footage, vulnerable women and children were seen cautiously and deliberately guided to safety by the Nigerian pilots.

As the war escalated the Rhodesians increasingly resorted to external raids, attacking targets in Mozambique, Angola and Zambia. Their view of these raids is reproduced in the fictionalised account of the Green Leader raid, Operation Zambezi. The Green Leader raid was not the most significant strategically, but it was the most heavily publicised, within Rhodesia and internationally. One of the factors provoking the Green Leader raid was the shooting down of a Rhodesian Viscount - Rhodesian reaction was recalled internally in "A Deafening Silence"
The raid began with an airstrike on the camps, after which helicopter gunships and ground troops would move in. After the first bombs fell came the Rhodesian's propaganda masterstroke. Climbing away after the bomb run, the commander of the raid -- Green Leader -- contacted Lusaka control tower. The tape of their conversation was broadcast throughout the world; it provided an incredible boost to white morale, and is still talked about by white Rhodesians today.
"Lusaka Tower, this is Green Leader. This is a message for the station commander at Mumba from the Rhodesian Air Force. We are attacking the terrorist base at Westlands farm at this time. This attack is against Rhodesian dissidents and not against Zambia. Rhodesia has no quarrel, repeat, no quarrel, with Zambia or her security forces. We therefore ask you not to intervene or oppose our attack. However, we are orbiting your airfield at this time and are under orders to shoot down any Zambian Air Force aircraft which does not comply with this request and attempts to take off. Did you copy all that?"
Lusaka tower replies that they have understood, and ask whether civil aircraft are still cleared to land. Green Leader asks them to wait half an hour or so. The impression given is very much that the Rhodesians are totally in control of the situation. And when Lusaka tower was asked by the incoming Kenya airways jet who had priority, Lusaka tower simply replied "I think the Rhodesians do".
This segment of dialogue was sampled in one of the best selling records in Rhodesia in 1978/79 -- the Green Leader March -- still available over the Internet today, and reproduced as the blurb on the back cover of this book; t-shirts, bumper stickers and a wealth of other merchandise were also produced to celebrate the audacity. The reality is somewhat different. As you might expect, the tape released to the international media was heavily edited; unfortunately for the Rhodesians, copies of the original survived, and is now available on the internet. This is a fuller version; I apologise for anyone who is offended by the odd swear word. There are now a couple of bursts of conversation between Rhodesian helicopter gunships, before Green Leader asks his navigator to check the tape recorder is working.
OK, let me try and get this spiel off: Lusaka Tower, this is Green Leader, how do you read?
Only one of the Rhodesian texts even hints at this, saying that the "choice obscenities were not unusual in such a combination of exhilaration and stress . . .among the more printable phrases. . . are the guerrillas running about like ants."
These texts are prepared to describe in great detail the effects of the Rhodesian attack, saying exactly what napalm and anti-personnel bombs can do to a person, or to talk of the hundreds of dead guerrillas. They are unprepared to use the odd "f" word. The whole point is that -- aside from the racial remarks -- this would go against the ideas of military professionalism, the detachment from events implicit in the Green Leader speech.

A multilateral military training exercise in Kenya involving military personnel from East African Community (EAC) nations, U.S.-based units and the Combined Joint Task Force concluded on Saturday.
The exercise code-named "Natural Fire 2006" began on August 8 in Baringo District, 200 kilometres (124 miles) North west of Nairobi.
Kenyan military officials said the exercise, in Baringo's Rift Valley, brought together about 1,000 US, Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan soldiers.
The exercise is set to provide medical, civil and engineering civic affairs programs to rural areas in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya as well as hold military-to-military training exercises, which will help all participants better respond to humanitarian crises.
Major Douglas McClain of the U.S Airforce said the exercise was a "combination of disaster relief, humanitarian assistance and counter terrorism."

In June 1978 it was learnt that SWAPO was preparing to attack the military bases at Katima Mulilo, Wenela and M''pacha. To meet this attack two combat teams viz Alpha and Bravo were formed.
The attack started on 23 August with a stand-off bombardment using 122 mm rockets on Katima Mulilo. One of these penetrated the roof of a barrack killing ten soldiers.
After an artillery and mortar battle the two combat units crossed the border. Combat team Bravo's target was a SWAPO base camp approximately 30 km from the Zambian border but they found it deserted and returned to M''pacha without having accomplished this objective. Combat Unit Alpha managed to catch up with the rear guard of a number of fleeing terrorists but were enticed into an ambush. In the fighting which ensued five terrorists were killed while about sixty fled. In a later skirmish at a terrorist base seven more terrorists were killed.
On 25 August combat teams Alpha, Bravo and Charlie Papa (consisting of a paratroop support company, a company of 31 Battalion and 140 mm gun troop) again cross the border to Zambia en route to Imusho, Cinzenbela and elsewhere but found them abandoned. The only worthwhile incident took place at' Cinzenbela when a local garrison fired at a South African helicopter, with an anti-aircraft gun. This was silenced by Combat Unit Bravo's artillery. The combat units crossed the border and returned on 27 August.

In June 1978 it was learnt that SWAPO was preparing to attack the military bases at Katima Mulilo, Wenela and M''pacha. To meet this attack two combat teams viz Alpha and Bravo were formed. The attack started on 23 August with a stand-off bombardment using 122 mm rockets on Katima Mulilo. One of these penetrated the roof of a barrack killing ten soldiers. After an artillery and mortar battle the two combat units crossed the border. Combat team Bravo's target was a SWAPO base camp approximately 30 km from the Zambian border but they found it deserted and returned to M''pacha without having accomplished this objective. Combat Unit Alpha managed to catch up with the rear guard of a number of fleeing terrorists but were enticed into an ambush. In the fighting which ensued five terrorists were killed while about sixty fled. In a later skirmish at a terrorist base seven more terrorists were killed. On 25 August combat teams Alpha, Bravo and Charlie Papa (consisting of a paratroop support company, a company of 31 Battalion and 140 mm gun troop) again cross the border to Zambia en route to Imusho, Cinzenbela and elsewhere but found them abandoned. The only worthwhile incident took place at' Cinzenbela when a local garrison fired at a South African helicopter, with an anti-aircraft gun. This was silenced by Combat Unit Bravo's artillery. The combat units crossed the border and returned on 27 August. -

The raid began with an airstrike on the camps, after which helicopter gunships and ground troops would move in. After the first bombs fell came the Rhodesian's propaganda masterstroke. Climbing away after the bomb run, the commander of the raid -- Green Leader -- contacted Lusaka control tower. The tape of their conversation was broadcast throughout the world; it provided an incredible boost to white morale, and is still talked about by white Rhodesians today.
"Lusaka Tower, this is Green Leader. This is a message for the station commander at Mumba from the Rhodesian Air Force. We are attacking the terrorist base at Westlands farm at this time. This attack is against Rhodesian dissidents and not against Zambia. Rhodesia has no quarrel, repeat, no quarrel, with Zambia or her security forces. We therefore ask you not to intervene or oppose our attack. However, we are orbiting your airfield at this time and are under orders to shoot down any Zambian Air Force aircraft which does not comply with this request and attempts to take off. Did you copy all that?"
Lusaka tower replies that they have understood, and ask whether civil aircraft are still cleared to land. Green Leader asks them to wait half an hour or so. The impression given is very much that the Rhodesians are totally in control of the situation. And when Lusaka tower was asked by the incoming Kenya airways jet who had priority, Lusaka tower simply replied "I think the Rhodesians do".
This segment of dialogue was sampled in one of the best selling records in Rhodesia in 1978/79 -- the Green Leader March -- still available over the Internet today, and reproduced as the blurb on the back cover of this book; t-shirts, bumper stickers and a wealth of other merchandise were also produced to celebrate the audacity. The reality is somewhat different. As you might expect, the tape released to the international media was heavily edited; unfortunately for the Rhodesians, copies of the original survived, and is now available on the internet. This is a fuller version; I apologise for anyone who is offended by the odd swear word. I'll begin with Green Leader's aircraft beginning the bomb run; the two main characters are Green Leader and his navigator/ bomb aimer

Only one of the Rhodesian texts even hints at this, saying that the "choice obscenities were not unusual in such a combination of exhilaration and stress . . .among the more printable phrases. . . are the guerrillas running about like ants."
These texts are prepared to describe in great detail the effects of the Rhodesian attack, saying exactly what napalm and anti-personnel bombs can do to a person, or to talk of the hundreds of dead guerrillas. They are unprepared to use the odd "f" word. The whole point is that -- aside from the racial remarks -- this would go against the ideas of military professionalism, the detachment from events implicit in the Green Leader speech.

What's important from the US perspective is we are doing everything that we can to partnership with other militaries and this is a perfect opportunity with the East African Community (EAC) members of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda for the United States to have the opportunity to come to a foreign soil to learn and train from other militaries."

A multilateral military training exercise in Kenya involving military personnel from East African Community (EAC) nations, U.S.-based units and the Combined Joint Task Force concluded on Saturday.
The exercise code-named "Natural Fire 2006" began on August 8 in Baringo District, 200 kilometres (124 miles) North west of Nairobi.
Kenyan military officials said the exercise, in Baringo's Rift Valley, brought together about 1,000 US, Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan soldiers.
The exercise is set to provide medical, civil and engineering civic affairs programs to rural areas in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya as well as hold military-to-military training exercises, which will help all participants better respond to humanitarian crises.
Major Douglas McClain of the U.S Airforce said the exercise was a "combination of disaster relief, humanitarian assistance and counter terrorism."

In June 1978 it was learnt that SWAPO was preparing to attack the military bases at Katima Mulilo, Wenela and M''pacha. To meet this attack two combat teams viz Alpha and Bravo were formed.
The attack started on 23 August with a stand-off bombardment using 122 mm rockets on Katima Mulilo. One of these penetrated the roof of a barrack killing ten soldiers.
After an artillery and mortar battle the two combat units crossed the border. Combat team Bravo's target was a SWAPO base camp approximately 30 km from the Zambian border but they found it deserted and returned to M''pacha without having accomplished this objective. Combat Unit Alpha managed to catch up with the rear guard of a number of fleeing terrorists but were enticed into an ambush. In the fighting which ensued five terrorists were killed while about sixty fled. In a later skirmish at a terrorist base seven more terrorists were killed.
On 25 August combat teams Alpha, Bravo and Charlie Papa (consisting of a paratroop support company, a company of 31 Battalion and 140 mm gun troop) again cross the border to Zambia en route to Imusho, Cinzenbela and elsewhere but found them abandoned. The only worthwhile incident took place at' Cinzenbela when a local garrison fired at a South African helicopter, with an anti-aircraft gun. This was silenced by Combat Unit Bravo's artillery. The combat units crossed the border and returned on 27 August.

Press Statement issued on 22/04/2016 by The Rwanda High Commission Charge d’Affaires a.i Abel Buhungu: to CBC Television Zambia: on the spontaneous attacks on Rwandan Nationals living Zambia and the subsequent looting of Rwandan owned business in Zambia.
STATEMENT IN FULL:
First of all the attacks and looting were spontaneous as it started on Monday. And was sparked by rumours that a Rwandan national was among the foreign suspected individuals that had had a hand in the reported ritual killings. I call it a rumour because when we (The Rwandan High Commission) spoke to the Authorities here, including the Police and of course the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Senior Officials, they informed us that there is no truth to this rumour. So these attacks and looting therefore started spontaneously on Monday (19/04/2016) and we are aware that since then over 60 shops have been looted and as a result of this, quite a number of our Nationals have sought refuge at Police Stations, as well as here at the Rwandan High Commission here in Lusaka.
Our intervention as the Rwanda High Commission has been on three fronts:
1. To advise all our Nationals that once threatened they should go to the nearest Police Station for Safety. But also to remain alert and avoid unnecessary movements particularly in densely populated areas. We advise that they keep to their respective residences, as opposed to their usual places of business and shops- because those locations in question are targeted.
2. We are advising and insisting that all our nationals strictly abide and observe the National laws of the host country, Zambia. The Rwanda High Commission as of Monday and Tuesday (19-20/04/2016) engaged with the Head of the Police Diplomatic Unit who are responsible for liaising with Embassies and High Commissions with the Police, and they continue to assure us of the Zambian Government’s response and efforts being made across Lusaka.
The Rwanda High Commission also engaged other Political leaders of the Zambian Government, Senior Officials of the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and they have also reassured the High Commission of the Zambian Government’s seriousness in making sure that the situation is normalized.
The current signs are that indeed the situation is under control.
3. The Rwandan High Commission has hosted some of the Rwandan Nationals that have run to us. As per last night (20/04/2016) we had a total of 50 Rwanda Nationals that had sought refuge here at the Rwanda High Commission in Lusaka, Zambia. We have subsequently as a High Commission had to provide basic necessities and of course the paramount necessity of Shelter and Safety, which was most needed at the time.
I also must once again thank the Zambian Government and Authorities for the manner in which they responded to the spontaneous mob looting.
The Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made very clear statements condemning the looting and clearly indicated that whatever was being done by the mob was not in any way related to the alleged unfortunate ritual killings. And we as Rwanda High Commission are aware that through the Zambian Government and respective Authorities, some of the suspects have been apprehended and in turn we have no doubt that the law will definitely take its course.
We are also aware that as of last night (20/04/2016) the President of the Republic of Zambia H.E Edgar Lungu, has also thrown his weight behind ensuring that the looting comes to a complete end. The Zambian President has since given special orders, and the military has also been deployed to support the Police. And I have no doubt that this unsavoury situation will come to an end and that the situation will stabilize and return to normal-that is what we wish.

Zambia Elections 2016 results -PF Hired Hacker Admits To Altering ECZ Results [Exclusive Video].
A man who was caught red handed by vigilant polling station observers has admitted to Police hacking the ECZ computer systems and changing UPND Presidential figures with the express permission of ECZ .
At the ECZ press briefing yesterday, ECZ Staff were asked how an outsider who didn't work for the ECZ managed to access the highly restricted IT zone and allowed to operate IT systems there. They were further asked how the nabbed man was accredited and granted access to an electronic access card to the area, surprisingly without the knowledge of the IT.
However, ECZ denied having any knowledge about the fracas and they themselves were in shock of how the man had access to such confidential details such as system passwords.
"No one can get a pass word unless he's been provided with one by the IT staff".
The alleged hired hacker is in custody.
Meanwhile the UPND has written to the ECZ demanding that all staff responsible for issuance of IT access cards and passwords be immediately suspended and investigated by Police.

The Zambian Cultural Dance Troupe (ZCDT) is a group of professional artists drawn from nine different professional community based cultural ensembles in Zambia with the view of supporting the 'One Zambia and Nation' motto, through art and culture. The ZCDT has worked with different organizations both locally and worldwide including the Government of Zambia through National activities. A 'Waka Waka' performance in Delhi by dance troupes from Seychelles, Zambia, Sudan, Ghana and Senegal at the African Festival in New Delhi. This happened on the 18th and the 19th of June 2012. African cultures and traditions go back far in time. To film a traditional ceremony few know about was an amazing experience. Zambia has over 70 different tribes, each with their own rich culture. Long before David Livingstone discovered and 'named' the Victoria Falls it had always been an integral part in culture of the Mukuni Royal Dynasty that dates back almost 400 years. This incredible waterfall is called Nsyungu Namutitima by the indigenous Leya people, or Mosi-oa-Tunya -- the smoke that thunders. He married the Leya tribal Chief Priestess, Be-Dyango Munyama and so began what is now known as the Mukuni Royal Dynasty. The village was originally founded in the 13th Century by the Chireya Dynasty. It is built on a sandy knoll with a population of 10 000 inhabitants making it one of the largest of its kind in Africa. It is unique in that it is home to two palaces. Lumpasa for the male ruler and Nanjima for the female-co-ruler - Be-Dyango
The Mukuni Royal Dynasty today consists of 33 Monarchs that stretches across Congo, Central and Eastern Zambia and Northern Zimbabwe. They all converge here for this ceremony. It's a reminder of their ancestral past and a celebration of their culture.

Seven countries in Southern Africa are modelling how to deliver integrated SRHR-HIV services in order to improve uptake. This is Zambia's story.
The SRH-HIV Linkages programme aims to link HIV prevention, treatment and care with Sexual Reproductive Health Services. While this may appear logical, it is not the way public health clinics are currently organized in these countries. The programme is about making small subtle changes in health care delivery that have a big impact on the lives of ordinary people. It uses the opportunity to provide comprehensive services to any client who seeks health services at the clinics. If they seek HIV testing, they are also offered family planning, antenatal services, cervical cancer and TB screening, and more.
The results suggest that the project has led to increased uptake of critical HIV and SRH services, such as HIV testing and counselling and ART, as well as family planning commodities and cervical cancer screening. This project was launched in 2011 with funds from the European Union and the Governments of Sweden and Norway, and technical support from UNAIDS and UNFPA.

It's marketing itself as the real Africa and if you visit any of the South African reserves before you go to Zambia you will agree with them! There are no traffic jams around the Lions here! The future for Zambia also looks a lot brighter than many of its neighbours, its new government under President Sata seems to be behind conservation. It recently declined granting a uranium mining licence in Lower Zambezi National Park because of the environmental damage it would cause
Organised safaris are the way to go in Zambia. Self driving is an option but is only for the fully self sufficient. Zambia is home to some of Africa's greatest national parks. Lower Zambezi, South Luangwa and the frankly huge (the worlds second biggest NP) Kafue are the main ones, but North Luangwa and the virtually inaccessible Luiwa Plains are worth a mention. Although sometimes you might find the borders of them hard to define, there are no fences in Zambia, it really is the Africa of your imagination.
Safaris are through various operators, many being very expensive, but good value options are available and it's best to use a local established operator such as The River Safari Company.

The Zambezi river forms the natural boundary with Zambia and when in full flood (February-April) the massive Victoria Falls on the river forms the world's largest curtain of falling water. The Victoria Falls are a major tourist attraction.
Once known as the Breadbasket of Africa, since 2000, Zimbabwe has undergone an economic collapse and the rule of law has gradually but largely broken down, although there have been a few signs of improvement since the theoretical formation of a unity Government in 2009 and the Zimbabwean economy has been on the rebound. GDP grew by more than 5% in the year 2010 and 2011, from a very low base. Growth is forecast to increase, buoyed by high mineral prices and the improving agriculture sector.

From the impressive granite stone complex that was once built, the ruins span 1,800 ac (700 ha) and cover a radius of 100-200 mi (160-320 km).

Bungee jumping is not for the faint-hearted. But Zambia's tourism minister bungee jumps to prove that it's still a safe sport. It comes after an Australian tourist survived a fall when her bungee cord snapped during a leap off Victoria Falls.
Zambia's tourism minister jumped off Africa's Victoria Falls Bridge in an attempt to reassure tourists about bungee safety.

"I came to prove that this is a very safe sport. I wouldn't do it if I wasn't sure. I have done it because I am confident it is safe. I didn't want to use any other person as a guinea pig, I decided that the world must use me as a guinea pig and if I wanted to risk my life that means that it is safe. Let everybody come and jump."
An Australian woman survived a terrifying fall.
Her bungee cord snapped during a 364-feet leap off Africa's Victoria Falls Bridge, plunging her into the crocodile-infested Zambezi River below.
Erin Langworthy suffered only cuts and bruises in the fall on New Year's Eve.
She was treated at a nearby clinic before being evacuated to South Africa.
Local radio reports said that Zimbabwean authorities suspended bungee jumping while authorities continued to investigate the incident.

Cichlids, the living jewels of Lake Malawi, are highly sought after among aquatic fish enthusiasts, the brightly coloured males achieving the highest prices. Provided with a good supply of oxygen and a light sedative in the water, once a month the fish are taken to the airport. The craggy rock scenery of Lake Malawi was not always below water. Only when the southern section of the East African Rift Valley filled with water did it become home to cichlids. On the extreme south east coast on the border with Mozambique is Mount Mulanje, a huge mountain range that formed during volcanic activity more than a hundred and thirty million years ago. At the foot of the mountain scenery grows one of the world’s finest varieties of tea. The Maravi Kingdom eventually became an independent country, Malawi, the warm and beating heart of Africa!

Africa is a very diverse continent, with each country, or even each part of a country having its own unique culture. While the continent's diverse and unique wildlife is often all that is mentioned in regards to African travel, as home to the oldest civilizations on the planet, Africa has equally impressive cultures and history. The most famous civilization on the continent, and arguably in the world, is that of ancient Egypt. From the southern city of Abu Simbel to Luxor and all the way north to Alexandria and Cairo, including the Pyramids of Giza, the only surviving of the original Seven Wonders of the World and the most iconic symbols of this ancient kingdom. Sites from the Nubian-Kushite Kingdom that broke away from Egypt can be found in Sudan, such as Gebel Barkal and many other pyramids in Meroe.
Ethiopia offers many ruins from the ancient Axumite Kingdom where the Queen of Sheba ruled. The obelisks and Dungur ruins in Axum were built prior to the kingdom's conversion to Christianity, while many other great monuments, such as the Ezana Stone and the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion, where the Arc of the Covenant is said to be stored, were built after the conversion as religious sites. Other famous Christian structures built later by the kingdom's successor, the Abyssinian Empire, especially during the 12th and 13th centuries, can also be found in Lalibela.

Djibouti's Lake Assal is the second lowest point on Earth, the saltiest lake outside Antarctica, and one of the hottest places on Earth.
While the first activity most people associate with Africa is safaris, there are endless possibilities for adventure. You can purchase crafts in markets, venture into the Sahara with a Tuareg caravan, visit pygmy villages, hike through jungle to watch gorillas, relax on tropical islands in the Indian Ocean, snack on exotic treats, travel down a river in a dugout "pirogue", travel across savannah on a colonial-era railway, and much more.
Africa is a very diverse continent, with each country, or even each part of a country having its own unique culture. While it is common for people in the West to refer to Africa as if it was a single country, one should remember the sheer size of the continent, and that Africa is not one country but 54 different countries, meaning that it is impossible to make generalisations of Africa as a whole.
Tragically misunderstood by many people as a land of poverty, corruption, war and famine, and simply as a land of suffering—a misconception only bolstered by the media and the numerous NGOs on the continent—Africa today is a vast continent with many bustling metropolises, friendly people, and amazingly diverse and beautiful landscapes. While there are some places resembling the stereotypical Africa of war, famine, and poverty, most of the continent is peaceful, well-fed, and of working class .

Many visitors are attracted by the African flora and fauna and several countries benefit from Safari tourism to African National Parks.
Natural Wonders
Africa is home to many famous natural wonders, from the Nile River, the world's longest river, to Victoria Falls. The continent is home to two of the world's four volcanoes with permanent lava lakes—the dramatic Mount Nyiragongo which rises hundreds of metres above Goma, DRC and Erta Ale in Ethiopia's stark Danakil Depression (the others are Mt.Erebus in Antarctica & Kilauea in Hawaii). Both volcanoes can be climbed by the adventurous tourist to stand at the rim gazing in awe at the bubbling lava below, an especially incredible sight at night!

Historical civilizations
While the continent's diverse and unique wildlife is often all that is mentioned in regards to African travel, as home to the oldest civilizations on the planet, Africa has equally impressive cultures and history. The most famous civilization on the continent, and arguably in the world, is that of ancient Egypt. From the southern city of Abu Simbel to Luxor and all the way north to Alexandria and Cairo, including the Pyramids of Giza, the only surviving of the original Seven Wonders of the World and the most iconic symbols of this ancient kingdom. Sites from the Nubian-Kushite Kingdom that broke away from Egypt can be found in Sudan, such as Gebel Barkal and many other pyramids in Meroe.
Ethiopia offers many ruins from the ancient Axumite Kingdom where the Queen of Sheba ruled. The obelisks and Dungur ruins in Axum were built prior to the kingdom's conversion to Christianity, while many other great monuments, such as the Ezana Stone and the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion, where the Arc of the Covenant is said to be stored, were built after the conversion as religious sites. Other famous Christian structures built later by the kingdom's successor, the Abyssinian Empire, especially during the 12th and 13th centuries, can also be found in Lalibela.

Selous is Africa’s oldest and largest game reserve and is the habitat of many rare animals.It also contains more than four hundred bird species and some fascinating flora. There is no precise timetable for the train that will arrive from Zambia, it could arrive at virtually any moment and the train stops at the Selous Game Reserve twice a week. Most of the railroad is made up of a single track and only a few stations have sidings that permit the railroads’ freight trains to make way for the Mukuba Express. Despite the railroad and its safari travellers, Selous has retained its original and unspoiled splendour right up to the present day. Over the years many of the old train stations have been abandoned and now look like sad relics of a bygone age. The historic origins of this extraordinary railroad date back to German colonial times at the beginning of the twentieth century. What was once known as The Middle Land Railroad was one of the most technically challenging and expensive projects of East Africa’s German colonists. Today the one thousand two hundred and fifty four kilometre railroad is an important reminder of those bygone days. In the late afternoon the train reaches its final destination of Dar-Es-Salaam and this unforgettable and captivating train journey comes to an end.
