Mali (i/ˈmɑːli/; French: [maˈli]), officially the Republic of Mali (French: République du Mali), is a landlocked country in West Africa. Mali is the eighth-largest country in Africa, with an area of just over 1,240,000 square kilometres (480,000 sq mi). The population of Mali is 14.5 million. Its capital is Bamako. Mali consists of eight regions and its borders on the north reach deep into the middle of the Sahara Desert, while the country's southern part, where the majority of inhabitants live, features the Niger and Senegal rivers. The country's economy centers on agriculture and fishing. Some of Mali's prominent natural resources include gold, being the third largest producer of gold in the African continent, and salt. About half the population lives below the international poverty line of $1.25 (U.S.) a day. A majority of the population (55%) are non-denominational Muslims.
Present-day Mali was once part of three West African empires that controlled trans-Saharan trade: the Ghana Empire, the Mali Empire (for which Mali is named), and the Songhai Empire. During its golden age, there was a flourishing of mathematics, astronomy, literature, and art. At its peak in 1300, the Mali Empire covered an area about twice the size of modern-day France and stretched to the west coast of Africa. In the late 19th century, during the Scramble for Africa, France seized control of Mali, making it a part of French Sudan. French Sudan (then known as the Sudanese Republic) joined with Senegal in 1959, achieving independence in 1960 as the Mali Federation. Shortly thereafter, following Senegal's withdrawal from the federation, the Sudanese Republic declared itself the independent Republic of Mali. After a long period of one-party rule, a coup in 1991 led to the writing of a new constitution and the establishment of Mali as a democratic, multi-party state.
The old town of a city or town is its historic or original core. Although the city is usually larger in its present form, many cities have redesignated this part of the city to commemorate its origins after thorough renovations. There are many places throughout the world named old town (and this is sometimes construed as a proper noun and capitalized). This is a list of some famous old towns:
The Great Mosque of Djenné is a large banco or adobe building that is considered by many architects to be one of the greatest achievements of the Sudano-Sahelian architectural style. The mosque is located in the city of Djenné, Mali, on the flood plain of the Bani River. The first mosque on the site was built around the 13th century, but the current structure dates from 1907. As well as being the centre of the community of Djenné, it is one of the most famous landmarks in Africa. Along with the Old Towns of Djenné it was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.
UNESCO is adding Mali's Old Towns of Djenne, famous for their adobe architecture, to its list of World Heritage in Danger sites. The decision was made Wednesday in Istanbul, where the 40th session of the World Heritage Committee is being held. The committee expressed concern over the historic towns, saying insecurity stood in the way of "safeguarding measures." It appealed to the international community to support Mali's efforts to protect the site. The Old Towns of Djenne have been inhabited since 250 B.D. They became a market center and a major link in the trans-Saharan gold trade. http://hosted2.ap.org/APDEFAULT/4e67281c3f754d0696fbfdee0f3f1469/Article_2016-07-13-EU--UNESCO-Mali/id-877314132a044a1c89ce1fc3973ac27d http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using ht...
Inhabited since 250 B.C., Djenné became a market centre and an important link in the trans-Saharan gold trade. In the 15th and 16th centuries, it was one of the centres for the propagation of Islam. Its traditional houses, of which nearly 2,000 have survived, are built on hillocks (toguere) as protection from the seasonal floods. In the town of Djenné in Mali (Western Africa) you can find the famous loam mosque. On Mondays there is a big market in front of the mosque. Not only the mosque is made of loam, but a large part of the town as well. The town is registered on the Unesco World Heritage list. I recorded this video in January 2005. This copy comes from my Mali-film on DVD. Unfortunately I don't have the original footage anymore.
Djenné is a town and an urban commune in the Inland Niger Delta region of central Mali. The town is the administrative centre of the Djenné Cercle, one of the eight subdivisions of the Mopti Region. The town is famous for its distinctive adobe architecture, most notably the Great Mosque which was built in 1907 on the site of an earlier mosque. To the south of the town is Djenné-Djeno, the site of one of the oldest known towns in sub-Saharan Africa. Djenné together with Djenné-Djeno were designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988.
Djenné (also Dienné or Jenne) is a historically and commercially important small city in the Niger Inland Delta of central Mali. It is just west of the Bani River (the Niger River passes well to the west and north). It has an ethnically diverse population of about 12,000 (in 1987). It is famous for its mud brick (adobe) architecture, most notably the Great Mosque of Djenné which was rebuilt in 1907. In the past, Djenné was a centre of trade and learning, and has been conquered a number of times since its founding. It is the oldest known city in sub-Saharan Africa, and its historic city center was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Administratively it is part of the Mopti Region. Djenné was founded in about 800 CE by the Bozo people at a site known as Jenné-Jeno, 1.5 km up...

Mali: An Invitation to Travel is a video documentary which presents a positive yet not uncritical introduction to the history, economics and culture of Mali. It aims to fill the void between the lack of information and the misinformation currently available about Africa in general and about Mali in particular. The project was initiated by members of MaliWatch (a group that promotes democracy and openness) including Abdoulaye Doucoure, Janet Goldner, Mohomoudou Houssouba, Boubacar Kane, Iba Ndiaye, and Bakary Sylla. It was produced and edited in Bamako with additional archival footage. A co-production of MaliWatch and CNCM (Le Centre National de la Cinématographie du Mali).

http://www.theworldlovefoundation.org This is where it all began for us back in 2006. On our way to Timbuktu Mali from Accra Ghana while filming an adventure travel show titled 'Overland' we came across the small village near Bolgatanga that would change our lives forever. Since then we have formed a non profit and to date we have funded 4 boreholes, clean water wells, in the country of Ghana near Bolgatanga. Each year in November we take a small group to Ghana that funds at least one new borehole. Come with us! 541-247-0625

When Mali Music's new album "Mali Is..." releases in a couple of weeks, it will be a milestone achievement for the inspirational rnb singer. Having already released two successful albums on his own, his debut RCA release should give him an added boost to gain the recognition he do deserves. The girl's a fool
She broke the rule
She hurt him hard
This time you will break down
She's lost his trust
And so she must
Now all is lost
The system has broke down
Romance has broke down
This boy is crackin' up
This boy has broken down
This boy is crackin' up
This boy has broke down
She plays it hard
She plays it tough
But thats enough
The love is over
She's broke his heart and that is rough
But in the end you'll soon recover
The romance is over
This boy is crackin' up
This boy has broken down
This boy is crackin' up
This boy has broke down
This boy is crackin' up
This boy has broken down
This boy is crackin' up
This boy has broke down
I've been spending my money
In the old town
It's not the same honey
With you not around
I've been spending my time
In the old town
I sure miss you honey
Now you're not around
You're not around
This old town
Yeah bah!
This boy is crackin' up
This boy has broken down
This boy is crackin' up
This boy has broke down
