The fantastic original opening scene from Star Wars, way back in 1977.
Little do some folks know, the title was renamed to "Episode IV: A New Hope" in the theatrical re-release in 1981. This was after the first or second draft for Empire was written and Lucas and co decided to make the films episodic in nature, as a tribute to the old serials from the 30's like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. Perhaps that was how it was originally intended, but Fox thought it should be named Star Wars, in case there was never a sequel.

(NOTE)
This video is not the actual original footage, restored or anything. It is in fact a hybrid of the original title crawl with some minor color correction and then I spliced in the Blu-ray footage, as for the most part, its unaltered. The music cue of the planet is a bit off in this release, which I never noticed.
Anyway, everything about this opening sequence is fucking genius.

This is one of the few examples where the Special Edition certainly improves on the original film. The added shots are welcome in my book.

A comparison video comparing all changes added into Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope from 1981 to this very day. This video is purely objective and I've refrained from making any kind of strong opinion on anything, its here to show off all the changes as far as I know of while presented in an organized, relatively chronological order of the film.
That being said, the original Star Wars has received the heaviest treatment of changes out of all three, easily. Some minor, others more prominent and even infamous. This video was extra tricky since there are a number of changes that are exclusive to some releases. Note every major Star Wars release analyzed in this video:
-Theatrical Cut (1977)
-Special Edition (1997)
-DVD Trilogy (2004)
-Blu-ray Trilogy (2011)

Kevin Smith
Kevin Patrick Smith (born August 2, 1970) is an American filmmaker, actor, comedian and public speaker as well as a comic book writer, author, and podcaster.
He came to prominence with the low-budget comedy Clerks (1994), which he wrote, directed, co-produced, and acted in as the character Silent Bob of stoner duo "Jay & Silent Bob". Jay and Silent Bob have appeared in Smith's follow-up films Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back which were mostly all set in his home state of New Jersey. While not strictly sequential, the films frequently featured crossover plot elements, character references, and a shared canon described by fans as the "View Askewniverse", named after his production company View Askew Productions, which he co-founded with Scott Mosier.
Smith also directed and produced films such as the buddy cop action comedy Cop Out (2010), the horror film Red State (2011), and the horror comedy Tusk (2014), the first film in the True North trilogy.

This video is purely objective and I've refrained from making any kind of strong opinion on anything, its here to show off all the changes as far as I know of while presented in an organized, relatively chronological order of the film.
That being said, the original Star Wars has received the heaviest treatment of changes out of all three, easily. Some minor, others more prominent and even infamous. This video was extra tricky since there are a number of changes that are exclusive to some releases. Note every major Star Wars release analyzed in this video:

-Special Edition (1997)
-DVD Trilogy (2004)
-Blu-ray Trilogy (2011)
