A convicted criminal is on the run after ramming a police car in Craigmore, north of Adelaide, this afternoon.

SA Police have asked for assistance to locate Raymond Jones after the police helicopter, officers and two dogs were unable to find him.

Police allege Jones was spotted driving a lime green Ford Flacon on Yorktown Road, Craigmore about 1:20pm and he refused to stop for officers.

The car rammed the patrol car and the driver was last seen running on Somerset Grove and then west on Spaxton Crescent.

Police said Jones was on home detention while on trial for a serious assault and failed to appear in court on the last day of his trial.

He was convicted in his absence on October 19.

A bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police have described Jones as Caucasian, 171 centimetres tall, 100 kilograms, with blond hair, blue eyes with tattoos on his face, neck and arms.

People have been urged not to approach him and to call police.
