Jade North defended by Brisbane Roar after A-League dive against Melbourne City

Brisbane Roar captain Matt McKay says team-mate Jade North's dive in Saturday's night match against Melbourne City has been "blown out of proportion".

North escaped punishment from Football Federation Australia (FFA) after he was accused of feigning injury when he fell to the ground clutching his face, having been barely touched in an incident involving City's Bruno Fornaroli.

The Roar vice-captain stayed down trying to secure a free kick and City took advantage of the extra space to score its only goal in the 1-1 draw at AAMI Park.

The FFA chose not to sanction North and he has apologised for his actions.

McKay says North let his emotions get the better of him against City.

"It was a running battle all day between the two of them and Jade got wound up a bit but I think his explanation is fine," he said.

"It's not in our nature, we've always been a fair club, we've won the Fair Play Award quite a few times and we'll continue to play the game strongly but fairly.

"I feel for Jade a bit to be honest but he's apologised to our playing group and coaching staff and fans which is great. Knowing Jade it's not in him.

"He's a great guy and an exceptional player so we need him this season, we'll back him all the way."

The Roar says the club dealt with the matter internally.
