Glenn Easton Dormand, better known as Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab, is an Australian songwriter, musician, record producer, remixer, TV presenter, radio announcer, and video director. He is best known as one of the founding members of the band Machine Gun Fellatio, and for his presenting work on MAX. In 1998, he won an ARIA Music Award for Song of the Year for "No Aphrodisiac" (co-written with Tim Freedman and Matt Ford). Chit Chat has also won an Inside Film Award and has been nominated for an Australian Film Institute Award.

Beginnings

Chit Chat began his musical career with the band Vrag. He was the lead singer and lyricist during the group's existence from 1988 until 1994. Vrag's four full members and two part-time vocalists would later form Machine Gun Fellatio (MGF). The only non-Vrag band member to be in MGF was Pinky Beecroft. In 2006, Vrag reformed and performed a show at Sydney's Annandale Hotel

A machine gun is a fully automatic mounted or portable firearm, designed to fire bullets in quick succession from an ammunition belt or magazine, typically at a rate of 300 to 1800 rounds per minute. Fully automatic weapons are generally categorized as submachine guns, assault rifles, battle rifles, automatic shotguns, machine guns, or autocannons.

As a class of military firearms, true machine guns are fully automatic weapons designed to be used as support weapons and generally used when attached to a mount or fired from the ground on a bipod or tripod. Light machine guns are small enough to be fired hand-held, but are more effective when fired from a prone position. The difference between machine guns and other categories of weapons is based on caliber, with autocannons using calibers larger than 20 mm, and whether the gun fires conventional bullets, shotgun cartridges, or explosive rounds. Fully automatic guns firing shotgun cartridges are usually called automatic shotguns, and those firing large-caliber explosive rounds are generally considered either autocannons or automatic grenade launchers ("grenade machine guns"). Submachine guns are hand-held automatic weapons for personal defense or short-range combat firing pistol-caliber rounds. In contrast to submachine guns and autocannons, machine guns (like rifles) tend to have a very high ratio of barrel length to caliber (a long barrel for a small caliber); indeed, a true machine gun is essentially a fully automatic rifle, and often the primary criterion for a machine gun as opposed to a battle rifle is the presence of a quick-change barrel, heavyweight barrel, or other cooling system. Battle rifles and assault rifles may be capable of fully automatic fire, but are not designed for sustained fire.

Machine Gun Fellatio

Machine Gun Fellatio was an Australian alternative rock band, formed in 1997. They were well known for their provocative on-stage antics and humorous lyrics, as well as the musical merit of their songs. Their outrage-provoking name (coined by an early associate of the band who devised the term from a philosophy exercise) gives some idea of the attitude that pervades the band's work. They released three studio albums, three EPs and three singles before breaking up in 2005.

Formation

Machine Gun Fellatio were formed when members of two Sydney bands, Vrag and Limebunny, combined in 1997. The bands had previously collaborated on projects and had released a compilation record, Unsound Sounds, which included a track by Vrag, "Isaac or Fuzz". "Isaac or Fuzz" consists of parts of a voice message left on a record company answering machine asking for the name of the song that goes "Da da da da...." (the song consists mostly humming of the tune "Reach Up" by the Paul Oakenfold-related project Perfecto Allstarz) put to a fast dance beat. In an interview Glenn Dormand (aka Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab) explained "We got a wrong number on our answering machine. We rang the number back. It was a local Pizza Hut. Basically, they said 'Isaac hasn't been here for a long time, and Fuzz isn't reliable either'." The song received significant airplay on national youth broadcaster Triple J. To capitalise on the success of the song they consolidated the band lineup, with Dave Arroyo and Glenn Dormand (Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab) on vocals and keyboards, Warrick Leggo (LoveShark) on guitar and Ross Johnston (3kShort) on bass, guitar and keyboards, and released their debut EP Love Comes To An End.

No Aphrodisiac

"No Aphrodisiac" is the third single on The Whitlams third album Eternal Nightcap. It was written by Tim Freedman, with Pinky Beecroft (Matt Ford) and Chit Chat Von Loopin Stab (Glen Dormand) (from the band Machine Gun Fellatio) helping with the lyrics. The single is the band's most successful and well known, voted the #1 song in the Triple J Hottest 100, 1997. Former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam, for whom the band was named, announced the winning news on air.

Details

"No Aphrodisiac" won Song of the Year at the 1998 ARIA Awards and was also nominated for Single of the Year, losing out to Natalie Imbruglia's Torn. The song was performed by the band at the ceremony before the Millennium. The song was performed live during the closing ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Paralympic Games.

The song was written for Freedman's girlfriend of the time, who was living in Melbourne. "We were growing apart, not writing to each other so much," Freedman has said. "Pinky Beecroft and Chit Chat had just played me a demo of theirs, which consisted of very funny personal classifieds, and we used 6 lines of that to finish the song."
