- Congratulations to SLF on a banner 40th Anniversary show for their locals last week!! Still putting out essential material (I have a slew of CD's leading up to when I finally saw them on 'Guitar and Bass' tour) that you will want to hear after hearing this classic material. Probably the most listened to album I had was 'All The Best' and really wore it out before I got the CD. At least back in the early eighties the needle stylus cartridges were light enough to not heat up and deform the grooves (have to file those down with sandpaper and lots of water) so my really old records like these four have pops near the start of the songs or albums where I didn't use the dampened lever arm on the stylus put just plunct 'er down and started jamming in my room. Fortunately I taped these four and listened mainly to the cassettes on my walkman so they didn't get too much damage at all. However the Now Then... LP has factory damage that you can hear where I cut it out but those were songs on my All The Best CD so you can substitute them and delete the other few songs if you want. After Led Zeppelin, this is the first band I strived to collect all their releases and sold off or traded a few like the Live Loud 2LP or Hanx or whatever thinking tapes were O.K. I first heard them in junior high school when a friend made me a tape with the single version of 'Gotta Gettaway' and Minor Threat's 'It Follows' tricking me and telling me the new thing was punk with bands who yodeled! Well he didn't need to sell me any further as these songs comforted me growing up and make up my being to such an extent that when I put on Nobody's Heroes and really started hearing those new frequencies I was missing in the past due to cheap equipment, for some reason I started crying?!!? Some buried pain from loveless parents I guess. I converted my roommate in college to this band as my friend did to me before and he bought all these CD's. Coincidentally my older sister's old favorite local band and one that was big on my old youtube channel has their 40th Anniversary show in a few days--the Flamin' Oh's Hooray!!!
