Uber driver arrested over alleged sexual assault

Victoria Police have arrested a Melbourne Uber driver after investigating an alleged sexual assault that occurred earlier this year.

Detectives arrested the 40-year-old Pakenham man on October 14.

He was released and is expected to be charged on summons. The sexual assault is alleged to have occurred early on Sunday, July 17.

Investigators have been told a 26-year-old woman from Pakenham entered the man's car on High Street, Berwick, about 1.30am.

An Uber spokesman said the company has been assisting Victoria Police with their enquiries.

"There is no place for the type of behaviour described and our thoughts are with the woman and her family," he said.

"We removed the driver's access to the platform as soon as we became aware of these allegations."
