Police have identified the remains found at Glen Aplin as those of missing Gold Coast man Jamie Hardgraves.
The remains were found near Stanthorpe at about 5pm on Thursday by a member of the public.
Mr Hardgraves, 43, was last seen on CCTV footage in the Stanthorpe CBD in the middle of May, after crashing his ute into a kangaroo.
His "skeletal remains" were found between 150 and 200 metres from Kerridges Road, and about the same distance from a house.
Detective Inspector David Isherwood said the remains had been there for "some time" and were not buried.
A police spokesperson said investigations into the death are ongoing, and further investigations would be needed to determine whether or not the death was suspicious.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
