Your plane's arrival time, the weather, the seatbelt sign being turned on - they are all things passengers expect the pilot to make announcements about when flying.

But news that you are about to become a parent is not what you expect to hear over the aircraft announcement system during your journey.

That's exactly how US man Eric Sadiwnyk found out he was going to be a dad after his wife Lisa contacted American Airlines and organised the surprise.

The couple, from Pennsylvania, were returning home from a trip to Las Vegas when the exciting news was shared.

The pilot began making his routine announcements before turning his attention to Lisa and Eric.

"I'd like to draw your attention to seat 29E, where you'll find Eric who's travelling with his wife Lisa," said the pilot.

"Well Eric, although you didn't strike it rich here in Las Vegas, you did hit the jackpot. Congratulations. You're about to be a dad."

Eric is visibly surprised by the news and kisses his wife while other passengers applaud the couple.

Lisa had discovered she was pregnant when they were in Las Vegas, but decided to hold off telling her husband the news until she could find a unique way to tell him.

Lisa recently posted a video of the special moment on Facebook. It has now been watched more than 743,000 times.

"There aren't enough Thank You's for the crew of American Airlines Flight 607 ... with service from Las Vegas to Philadelphia. You all helped me to pull this off seamlessly!," she posted with the video.

"I'm hoping if this video makes it around the internet a bit, I may be able to find the crew and thank them again! I'll also be sending a copy to American Airlines Customer Relations."
