EBSCO Information Services is a major US-based provider of library resources and information services. It manages a wide range of databases covering all subject areas. For more information see its website.

EBSCO's partnership with The Wikipedia Library includes one-year access to the following resources:

Requirements[edit]

  • You have your preferences enabled to receive email messages on English Wikipedia or on your home wiki linked from your application; (see Special:Preferences)
  • You have an account that is a minimum of 6 months old
  • You have a minimum of 500 edits to the encyclopedia
  • You do not already have access to this resource through another library or institution

If you don't quite meet the experience requirements but think you would still be a strong candidate for access, feel free to apply and you may be considered

Expectations[edit]

Approved editors may

  • Search, view, retrieve, and display portions of restricted content;
  • Electronically save portions of restricted content;
  • Print out single copies of portions of restricted content;
  • Comply with any terms and conditions which appear on the particular pages of the EBSCO website they are accessing and with the EBSCO user agreement.

Approved editors will not

  • Share their account logins or passwords with others, or sell their access to other parties
  • Mass scrape or mass download EBSCO content
  • Systematically make printed or electronic copies of multiple extracts of restricted content available for any purpose.
  • Datamine metadata without permission, in order, for instance, to use metadata for auto-created stub articles.
  • Use EBSCO content for any purpose not specifically outlined above

Private and confidential information

  • By applying to the Program, you understand and agree that your name and email address may be shared with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation, The Wikipedia Library, and EBSCO. Wikipedia Library organizers contracted under the Wikimedia Foundation will abide by the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy and associated confidentiality agreements. Volunteer representatives of the Wikipedia Library are neither employees nor contractors of the Wikimedia Foundation (or EBSCO), but they have signed confidentiality agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation with regards to the personal information they may handle for the Wikipedia Library.

  • Editors should always provide original citation information in addition to linking to EBSCO resources, per WP:V and WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT.
  • Editors should not provide bare links to restricted EBSCO pages
  • Note (subscription required) in the citation, where appropriate
  • Respect the copyright of EBSCO, in accordance with Wikipedia's copyright policy and their terms of use
  • Cite resources in line with the citation examples provided below or with the examples provided by EBSCO
Note that citation styles vary by article; editors can use the style most appropriate to the articles they are working with so long as the citations are complete.

    @Nikolaiho: You've written on your userpage that you are a student at a secondary school and although institution-wide access is more common at college or university, it would be good if you could check that you don't already have access to EBSCO through the school.   4. Teblick (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have been active on Wikipedia since January 2014, both creating articles (more than 100) and editing existing articles. My areas of interest are old-time radio, television, and film -- especially the people who contributed to those fields in the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Several titles in the list of EBSCO resources look promising for providing useful information as I continue to do research and write and edit in those areas.     Not approved Pyrusca: As you don't yet meet the experience requirements, I think it would be helpful for you to do a bit more editing first before applying for access.     Your editing history looks great so far, Pyrusca, but one of our requirements is that you have an account that is a minimum of 6 months old. I mostly create and edit articles about the history and pre-history of Native Americans and the explorers who first encountered them.   7. Mackensen (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I've been an editor since 2003 and have 50K+ edits. I've written one FA, 8 GAs, and somewhere north of 70 DYKs. I'm very active in researching North American railroading topics from the 20th century. Some of the enumerated sources in EBSCO should contain useful information on those topics. SusunW (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) I have been editing only 2 years, but I have created over 650 articles, the great portion of which are start class or higher and have over 25,000 edits and 186 DYK, as well as having been involved in 15 approved GAs. I work on articles having to do mostly with women, works created by women (such as conferences, organizations, artworks, books, etc.), and minorities. I do not restrict my writing to the US, but have written many articles on subjects from every continent, including several recent contributions to women working in Antarctica. I often encounter articles which would be accessible through EBSCO, but must rely on other contacts to obtain those articles for me. Wasted Time R (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) Contributor since 2005 with 68,000 edits and 135 total FA/GA/DYK credits, researching in a variety of subjects including history, politics, music, business, academia, and destinations. I have often seen where EBSCO access would be helpful in finding sources.
