San Antonio (/ˌsænænˈtoʊni.oʊ/ Spanish for "Saint Anthony"), officially the City of San Antonio, is the seventh most populated city in the United States of America and the second most populated city in the state of Texas, with a population of 1,409,019. It was the fastest growing of the top 10 largest cities in the United States from 2000 to 2010, and the second from 1990 to 2000. The city is located in the American Southwest, the south–central part of Texas, and the southwestern corner of an urban region known as the Texas Triangle.
San Antonio serves as the seat of Bexar County. Recent annexations have extended the city's boundaries into Medina County and, though for only a very tiny area near the city of Garden Ridge, into Comal County. The city has characteristics of other western urban centers in which there are sparsely populated areas and a low density rate outside of the city limits. San Antonio is the center of the San Antonio–New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area. Commonly referred to as Greater San Antonio, the metropolitan area has a population of over 2.3 million based on the 2014 US Census estimate, making it the 25th-largest metropolitan area in the United States and third-largest in the state of Texas. Growth along the Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 corridors to the north, west and east make it likely that the metropolitan area will continue to expand.
The San Antonio Missions are a minor league baseball team based in San Antonio, Texas. The team, which plays in the Texas League, is the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres major-league club. The Missions play in Nelson W. Wolff Municipal Stadium, located in San Antonio. Opened in 1994, the park seats over 6,200 fans and holds more than 9,000.
The San Antonio Missions' logo features famous local attraction the Alamo, originally a Spanish mission. The team's official mascot is "Ballapeño", a baseballing jalapeño.
The Missions are owned by the Elmore Sports Group, an organization which also owns the Inland Empire 66ers of the California League, Colorado Springs Sky Sox of the Pacific Coast League, Idaho Falls Chukars of the Pioneer League and Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League.
San Antonio was home for one of the charter members of the Texas League back in 1888. Since that inaugural season the town has hosted a number of Texas League franchises, most of them using the "Missions" moniker. Baseball was absent only a few of the early years (1893–94, 1900–1906) and again when World War II occupied most would-be ballplayers between 1943 and 1945.
Antonio is a Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese first name of Latin origin. In the English language it is translated as Anthony, and has some female derivatives: Antonia, Antónia, Antonieta, Antonietta, and Antonella. It also has some male derivatives, such as Anthonio, Antò, Antonis, Antoñito, Antonino, Antonello, Tonio, Toño, Toñín, Tonino, Nantonio, Totò, Tó, Tony, Toni, Toninho, and Toñito.
The Portuguese equivalent is António (Portuguese orthography) or Antônio (Brazilian Portuguese). In old Portuguese the form Antão was also used, In Galician the form Antón. The Greek versions fxxxx general Marcus Antonius held that the origin of the name was Anthon, son of Hercules. This myth, recorded by Plutarch, was probably created by Marcus Antonius himself, in order to claim divine parentage. The name was in use throughout the Roman world which, at its height, comprised the whole of the Mediterranean and much of Europe as well as the Middle East. When the Roman Empire became Christian, the name continued in popularity because of the many great saints who bore the name. Later, the name was spread all around the world as Christianity was introduced to other places (e.g. the Far East, the Americas, and Sub-Saharan Africa).
Mission San Antonio de Padua is a Spanish mission established by the Franciscan order in present-day Monterey County, California, near the present-day town of Jolon. It was founded on July 14, 1771, and was the third mission founded in Alta California by Father Presidente Junípero Serra. The mission was also the site of the first Christian marriage and the first use of fired-tile roofing in Upper California. Today the mission is a parish church of the Diocese of Monterey.
Mission San Antonio de Padua was the third Mission to be founded. Father Junipero Serra claimed the site on July 14, 1771 and dedicated the Mission to Saint Anthony of Padua. Saint Anthony was born in 1195 in Lisbon, Portugal and is the patron Saint of the poor. Father Serra left Fathers Miguel Pieras and Buenaventura Sitjar behind to continue the building efforts, though the construction of the church proper did not actually begin until 1810. By that time, there were 178 Native Americans living at the Mission.

If you're looking for things to do in San Antonio TX on the River Walk, you can't beat a cruise boat tour on one of San Antonio's famous river barges. San Antonio, in Texas, is close to the Mexican border. Old Spanish missions surround this river settlement. About 28 million people visit San Antonio each year to experience its Latin-style atmosphere. The main attractions are the famous Riverwalk and historically significant Alamo fortress, a symbol of proud defiance. The old town, with its winding paths and arched bridges, is best explored on foot. Watertaxis, vintage buses and trolleys also shuttle visitors around. San Antonio's constant buzz is best enjoyed in lively hubs such as La Villita and Market Square. Bands often play at riverside amphitheaters and restaurants. The dwellings in the Institute Of Texan Cultures provide a glimpse of early life in the Southwest. Those keen to see history through the eyes of artists should browse ...

Its capital Montevideo has a warm, temperate climate, pleasant sea breezes and miles of boulevards. From Montevideo’s Telecommunications Tower you can see the hill that gave the city its name. Another tower, the Palacio Salvo looms high above the Plaza Independencia in the City Center. Under this square is the mausoleum for the country’s revolutionary hero José Artigas. Nearby Plaza Matriz is the city’s oldest square and home to the 18th-century Metropolitan Cathedral, the focal point of Uruguay’s Old Town. Soccer is big here and in 1930 Uruguay hosted and won the first-ever FIFA World Cup in the Estadio Centenario. Another proud local tradition is “...
