Les Legions Noire Part Nine: Mutiilation

Mutiilation's Vampires Of Black Imperial Blood is essential Les Legions Noire material. Mutiilatiion has the distinction of being the only LLN band still active today, though rumor has it that they were ousted from LLN in 1996 due to mainman Meyhna'ch's heroin addiction. There are so many rumors surrounding these bands it'd be hard to confirm any such allegations and it bears little relevance to Mutiilation's fantastic recorded output.

Les Legions Noire Part Eight: Torgeist

Torgeist, along with Vlad Tepes and Belketre, were one of the better known LLN bands, perhaps because Torgeist played a more traditional style of Black Metal. Again, Torgeist had the prolific Vordb (Black Murder, Brenoritvrezorkre, Dzlvarv, Moëvöt, Susvourtre, Vzaeurvbtre, Dvnaèbkre, and Belketre) in their ranks. Here is their classic Time of Sabbath demo from 1995, the unholy year of LLN.

Les Legions Noire Part Seven:Dvnaèbkre

Dvnaèbkre was another twisted entity from the mind of Vordb Dreagvor Uezeerb, the industrious Les Legions Noire figure who also was a member of Black Murder, Brenoritvrezorkre, Dzlvarv, Susvourtre, Torgeist, Vzaeurvbtre, Zelda, Moëvöt, Chambre Noir, and Belketre. The only release from Dvnaèbkre was this limited tape called Dvnaèbkre Zuérkl Mogovtre. It was released in 1995, and is no less fucked or brilliant than any other LLN artifact. You all have been going nuts for this stuff. I'd say "enjoy," but that seems very inappropriate when it comes to LLN matters. You get my drift, Vzurzvorkle.

Les Legions Noire Part Six: Moëvöt "Voebr"

Moëvöt is perhaps my favorite LLN project. Ghostly hymns, disjointed spectral voices, and dismal, cobwebbed cantos make Moëvöt's extremely rare tapes seem closer to EVP recordings than the ramblings of a morbid, sullen French teen. Moëvöt was operated solely by Vordb Dreagvor Uezeerb, a leading LLN figure who also was a member of Black Murder, Brenoritvrezorkre, Dzlvarv, Susvourtre, Torgeist, Vzaeurvbtre, Zelda, Dvnaèbkre, Chambre Noir, and Belketre. Voebr was Moëvöt's fourth demo. It was released in 1995.

Les Legions Noire Part Five: Brenoritvrezorkre

Brenoritvrezorkre was Vorlok and Nifleim of Vlad Tepes. This project is interesting because it sort of bridges the gap between the black metal and ambient sides of Les Legions Noire. There were four demos released as Brenoritvrezorkre over the course of 1995 and 1996. All four are here.

Les Legions Noire Part Four: Dzlvarv

Part Four of Cosmic Hearse's profiles of the cult French outsider black metal collective known as Les Legions Noire focuses on Dzlvarv. This project was headed by Vordb Dreagvor Uezeerb of the bands Belketre, Torgeist, and Black Murder. Dzlvarv released one demo in 1996. It typical LLN fashion it is lo-fi, eerie, and bizarre.

Les Legions Noire Part Three: The Black Plague Fanzine

For part three of Cosmic Hearse's homage to Les Legions Noire, I've decided to do something different by uploading scans of the Black Plague fanzine, no music today. Black Plague was the official voice of the reclusive LLN and you won't see interviews with some of these bands anywhere else. Featured within the pages of this infernal tome is Vlad Tepes, Mutiilation, Belketre, Black Murder and more. Don't worry it's in English, but should probably be read by candlelight. Read up, I'll be back with more music tomorrow.

Les Legions Noire Part Two: Seviss

Here is the second installment of Cosmic Hearse's look into the eccentric world of France's Les Legions Noire scene. Seviss was the concern of Vlad Tepes member, Vorlok. Seviss is one of the more "musical" LLN bands, and this recording titled ...Et Pleure Le Bâtard(...And Cry For The Battle) is considered one of the best to come from this extremely prolific group of bands and artists.

Les Legions Noire Part One: March To The Black Holocaust

In the early and mid '90s a small, tight-knit, group of French musicians and bands calling themselves "Les Legions Noire" (The Black Legions) created some of the most unnerving and original "music" to ever come from the black metal scene. Ranging from eerie ambient works to scraping lo-fi black metal, there seemed to be no end to the imagination and eccentricity of the LLN. Most recordings were never released properly, or released in extremely limited numbers on cassette-only formats. These recordings are some of the most sought after ever. Even more confusing is the number of fake bands and bootlegs that claim to be authentic LLN output, and the existence of actual reissues by the bands themselves with new titles and artwork. To further distance themselves from the herd, many LLN bands adopted bizarre, otherworldly names such as Brenoritvrezorkre, Dvnaèbkre, Dzlvarv, Vagézaryavtre, Mogoutre, Vzaeurvbtre, Susvourtre, and Uatrb Vélèpr to name a few. The best known Black Legions bands were Vlad Tepes and Belketre. Sensational rumors of ritual abuse and animal sacrifice surrounded the scene, but to my seasoned ears, the whole affair sounds like bored French teenagers with an abundance of choice blotter acid and a Tascam MF-P01. Here I present the notorius split from Vlad Tepes and Belketre, also known as March To The Black Holocaust, it's as good a place as any to start looking into the outlandish world of Les Legions Noire.
