Editor & Publisher Honored Legacy.com with 2010 EPpy Award during the 2010 Interactive Media Conference and Trade Show in Las Vegas on July 17. A newly added category for 2010 recognized the Best Social Networking Implementation on Media-Affiliated Web sites.

A finalist in two award categories this year, Legacy.com captured top honors as the Best Classified Web Site with Over One Million Unique Monthly Visitors. In the classified category, Legacy.com’s co-branded obituary sections that appear in 800-plus newspapers in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia, beat out fellow finalist WalletPop Video. "We are delighted to accept this award on behalf of our newspaper partners," said Legacy.com Chief Operating Officer Hayes Ferguson, who accepted the award. "This recognition reinforces the fact that newspapers are thriving online, especially in important categories such as obituaries. It also shows that our strategy of helping our newspaper partners build bridges to funeral homes and social media is working."

In the decade since it started partnering with newspapers, Legacy.com has used technology to offer features to help mourners express condolences. Credited for popularizing the online Guest Book as a widely accepted way to remember loved ones, Legacy.com screens about 800,000 new Guest Book entries each month. In addition to providing access to the most extensive database of online obituaries and Guest Books through its newspaper and funeral home partnerships, Legacy.com also features social media tools, charity information and special content, including a public forum that brings together grief experts and people who are mourning.

"Internet traffic numbers clearly show that Americans continue to rely on newspapers as a trusted source of important information, such as obituaries" said Ferguson. "We are pleased to be able to contribute to the continued success of our valued partners with product innovations that are meaningful to both their customers and their business."
