This cleverly rhymed children’s book explains the story of Santa’s scout elves, who are sent to be Santa’s eyes and ears at children’s homes around the world! When a family adopts a scout elf and gives it a name, the scout elf receives his or her Christmas magic and can fly to the North Pole each night to tell Santa Claus about all of the day's adventures—that’s how Santa knows who’s been naughty and who’s been nice!
This special tradition has captured the hearts of children all over the world who have embraced the magic of adopting their very own scout elf. Bring the Christmas magic home to your family this year!
Since its launch in 2005, The Elf on the Shelf has captured the hearts of children everywhere who have embraced the magic of adopting their very own scout elf, sent by Santa Claus. At the start of each Christmas season, the elf appears to serve as Santa's eyes and ears, and every night it travels back to the North Pole to report in.
Touted as "the best thing since The Night before Christmas," this gift set includes a North Pole scout elf, a hardbound children's book and a keepsake box. Children can register their elf online to receive an official adoption certificate and a special letter from Santa.

Comments about The Elf on the Shelf (boy elf w/ dark skin):
The idea is wonderful and my son enjoyed looking for the elf each morning. However the elf itself is poor quality and definitely not worth the money. If you like the idea then simply buy an elf or a doll and do it yourself, or even make one. This one is literally just a plastic face with felt arms and legs- it doesn't even have wire in the arms or legs to make it easier to 'hide' him somewhere, he falls over if you don't place him really carefully!! Also, when I ordered I couldn't specify if I wanted a light skin or a dark skin elf- I was delivered a dark skin elf- made no difference to me really but for some they may like to choose and you can do this on other sites. Overall not worth the money and I think you can find much nicer better quality dolls/elves that would be nicer to use for the same thing- for a fraction of the price
