Preview site FAQs
Why is taste.com.au running a preview site?
We're always working on the taste.com.au website to ensure it offers you the best experience possible. We saw some areas we could improve to make the site easier to use, so we decided to make some changes.
Before we launch the new and improved taste.com.au, we want you to experience it first, so you can tell us what you like or don't like about it. As you explore, you'll help us understand how we can make it even better for you.
What is the preview website?
The taste.com.au preview website is designed to offer you an exciting first look at the new website before it goes live.
During the preview phase, we review all the feedback you give us about the new taste.com.au. We'll take it into account as we work to complete the new site - from the way it looks, to the way it works.
What experience will I get on the preview site?
The first thing you'll notice is the preview site looks different from the old site. That's because we're redesigning it to be easier and faster to use. Our aim is to showcase even more of the recipes you love and help you find the perfect meals to solve your daily dinner dilemmas.
We've kept all the popular features of the current taste.com.au in the preview site, so you get to see how things will work once the new site is up and running. We'd also love you to visit the preview site from your mobile or tablet, and tell us what you think.
How do I access the preview site?
When you visit the current taste.com.au, you'll see a green 'VIEW NEW SITE' button running at the top of the site. By clicking on this banner, you'll be redirected to the new preview site.
What if I want to go back to the old site?
When you're using the preview site, you can click the 'BACK TO TASTE CLASSIC' button at the top of the site again to go back to the current site at any time.
When will the preview site replace the existing taste.com.au?
We'll be working on the new site while the preview site is live. We'll spend lots of time testing the new site to make sure it's running smoothly. Once it's the best it can be, it will replace the old site.
What new features can I expect from the new site?
- New sections
We've restructured content into new sections at the top of the page based on our most popular themes — Quick & Easy, Healthy, Baking and Entertaining — so you can easily find all the latest and greatest recipes, collections and articles on site.
- Search
We know using the search bar is the way many people find what they want on our website, so we've worked hard to find innovative ways to help you find the perfect recipe, collection, article or piece of food inspiration. If you start typing, our new search predictively suggests recipes, collections and articles that match. Click on one of the suggestions to be taken directly to that recipe, or hit return to see all results.
- Filtering
You can now filter your results by publication, content type or theme using the menu on the left.
- Sorting
You can sort recipe results by relevance (this is the default), top rated, latest, A-Z, time to cook (this is cook time + any prep time) and calories per serve.
- Member dashboard
The new taste.com.au member dashboard makes it easy to find your latest searches, recently saved recipes, cookbooks and shopping list in one, user-friendly place. This is just the beginning of the new member features we're building!
Are any features of the current site being removed?
Yes, some features that we can see aren't popular won't be on the new site. Taste.com.au recently turned 10 years old, and there are some features from the early days that no longer seem as important to today's cooks — for example private messaging and clubs. However, if you think we've made a mistake in removing a feature you love and use regularly, please let us know by emailing admin@taste.com.au.
What doesn't work yet on the preview site?
We're still working on the user-created menu plans feature. We're improving this so it works better and we hope to release it soon. Until then, you can still create your own menu plans on the current (non-preview) version of taste.com.au.
What will happen when I save recipes to my cookbooks and shopping list on the preview site?
You can save recipes to your cookbooks and shopping list on the preview site, and we're really excited to hear what you think of these improved features. However, your cookbooks and shopping list will not sync between the existing site and the preview version.
When the preview period ends and we launch the new taste.com.au in full, we'll migrate your cookbooks, shopping list, comments and ratings from the old site to the new site. Many of our users have nearly a decade's worth of their favourite recipes saved in their cookbooks, so we take this very seriously.
However, it's important to note any cookbooks and shopping lists saved to the preview version of the site will be lost at this point, as they will be replaced with what is on the current taste.com.au.
So please remember: if you do use the cookbooks feature and want to save recipes for the future, please ensure you save them using the taste.com.au current site (not the preview version). You can switch back using the 'BACK TO TASTE CLASSIC' button at the top of each page.
