For Backyard Grill’s last leg, Southern Living magazine partners with the Department of Agriculture to give their trusted affiliates a venue to sell homegrown products. Unwind with a cup of coffee from Cocotos Mount Apo Coffee or local spirits from Distileria Limtuaco. The Perfect Mushroom will be serving mushroom burgers and yes, mushroom chicharon.
Also find organic edible flowers and greens from Down to Earth, sustainably sourced honey from Queen Bee, fresh carabao’s milk and cheese from Philippine Carabao Center, and even your favorite delicacies from Aging’s Kakanin.
Pre-holiday feast
Backyard Grill wouldn’t be complete without a grand feast. This time, Alamat will be bringing in the best craft beers from different regions, A Table will be serving home-cooked, comfort meals, and Tatang’s will be selling their crispy boneless pork bellies.
Other food stalls to expect are as follows: Tusk Social, Bayani Brew, The Good Seed by Edgy Veggy, Sigs Smokehouse, Ahi Hawaii, Stanford Shaw, The Cashew Milk, Susmaryosep, and Aburi Alabang.
The afternoon wouldn’t be complete without relaxing music from Joaqui Madamba, Coeli San Luis, and Between Archery and Olympic.

Last Sept. 17, Southern Living’s Backyard Grill returned to Urdaneta village’s football field.
Backyard Grill, a community event that brings together residents and guests (it’s open to the public), features food from local and small businesses. This month’s edition of the #HingeBYG included vendors like Lemoon’s lemonade and Sweeteas’ herbal drinks, Macho Taco, Birdmen (chili fries and chicken), Hachi Bao Studio, Bread and Botany (tostadas and tacos), Rodrigo’s Roast Beef, Tatang’s Boneless Lechon, Bigg Rigg Shawarma, Tusk Social (torched salmon bowls with nori and rice), Krispy Kreme and Makai Bowls (fruit smoothies with oats).
The event was marked by musical performances including saxophone soloist Vince Lahora who played some easy jazz, including the soundtrack to Sex and the City.
A portion of the proceeds from Backyard Grill were donated to the Down’s Syndrome Association of the Philippines, Southern Living’s chosen charity. They also had their own booth during the event to help raise awareness and spread the advocacy.

Whether you’re craving for good drinks, savory meals, or sweet treats, there’ll definitely be something for you to look forward to at Backyard Grill.
Start by quenching your thirst with a refreshing cup of Sweetea’s cold tea or Lemoon’s Lemonade, then maybe share a pair of Hachi Bao’s Studio’s buns or Bigg Rigg’s Sharwarmas with a friend. Snack on some Macho Tacos or a helping of Birdmen’s chili fries on the side. Sate your hunger with a serving of Rodrigo’s Roast Beef, or a juicy portion of the famous Tatang’s Boneless Lechon. For the second time this year, patrons reveled in sumptuous food and good music at Kulinaria at Portico, a familiar food event for Alveo Land’s developing property.
In tents lined with colorful lights, wooden picnic tables were laid out in columns for the eager crowds that came and sampled the concessionaires in bounding the food fair. Those who arrived early in the afternoon after a long journey by car or commute perked up with their choice of refreshment, a cold glass of Lemoon’s Lemonade, a quenching fruit smoothie from Thirsty Turtle, or a shot of Local Edition’s cold brew caffeine shakes. As the night went on, energized gastronomers then snacked on their pick of finger foods, a plate of chili cheese fries from Birdmen, a hot handful of Bigg Rigg’s 2-for-1 Shawarma, or a gourmet chili dog from Mad Mustard. Those who developed bigger cravings went and devoured a plate of Rodrigo’s Roast Beef, or a crisp helping of Tatang’s Boneless Lechon. Those who still had room ended the day on a sweet note as they enjoyed a unique dessert with a serving of Buccino’s unorthodox Ice Cream flavors, or a cleansing helping of fruits with oats from Makai Bowls, or even one of Pouf’s Colorful Cotton Candy animals.
Performers went up on stage to set the mood throughout the day. The tribal jazz band Dayaw got the hungry patrons going to the rhythm of their songs. As the rains pattered down, Ourselves the Elves played their chill jams to help people settle as the night went on. As the fair came to a close, Paincake Patrol took the stage and played the event off with his ambient electronic beats and synths.
A percentage of the proceeds of the concessionaires were donated to our partner organization Compassion And Responsibility for Animals or CARA Welfare. With a booth in front, CARA’s representative rescued dog Queenie welcomed onlookers while snacking on treats of her own. Interested fair-goers were encouraged to help and adopt animals in need and offered brochures promoting the organization’s advocacies.

On the heels of SoulBGC’s push for closer community ties, BGCitizens flocked to the landscaped One Bonifacio Highstreet Park to soak in the sights and sounds of Sunset Jazz Lounge last Jun. 5.
An avenue for SoulBGC and Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation (FBDC) to bring together its BGCitizens, Sunset Jazz Lounge was a laid-back culmination from a week of hustle and bustle. Guests were treated to a night of new culinary discoveries, live mural art by Rai Cruz, and performances by blues artist Hoochie Coochie Mikkie, jazz ensemble Extrapolation, and the ever soulful SINOSIKAT. BGCitizens of all ages, shapes, and sizes were present: from kids frolicking in the play area and families enjoying the atmosphere to groups of friends having a blast over drinks and expats absorbing the welcoming community vibe.

Drawing as much red-carpet attention as the diverse crowd gathered at the park was Pink’s Hot Dog’s introductory selling, with people from around the city lining up to get a taste of Hollywood’s iconic hot dogs. Also making themselves more accessible were Shangri-la at the Fort’s Samba and High Street Café, serving up specialty drinks, meat skewers, and crowd favorite Macau Wraps. Brotzeit’s beer paired with a selection of their sausages, Maisen’s katsu sandwiches, and Planet Grapes’ marriage of wine and street food were filling preludes to the sultry Sunday soiree. Toby’s Estates’ Buckies and coffees meanwhile provided a sweet substitute for its savory counterparts.

The typical weekend grind at the Bonifacio High Street Central Amphitheatre was chimed in by an array of different scents and sounds from The McCormick Flavor Nation Festival last April 30, 2016.
The perfect prelude for the Labor Day weekend, the Flavor Nation Festival featured well-curated food offerings from Manila’s top chefs, local musical performances, life-sized games and activities for the whole family. To top it all off, guests were given exclusive, first-hand experience to taste the new variations of The McCormick Noodle and Seasoning Mix for free.
The first of its kind here in the Philippines, the flavorful noodle selections that were prepared on-the-spot and given away were Laksa, Palabok, Birthday Noodles, Pad Thai, and Chap Chae. They say there’s no better way to be accustomed to a place than through its food, and these noodles took everyone to a culinary journey across Asia. McCormick Philippines’ very own Sabrina Artadi also prepared an appetizer for everyone inspired from traditional Filipino classics – sisig, laing, and diced green mangoes. Everyone’s thirst were quenched by a selection of juice concoctions such as Herbed Peach, Rosemary Iced Tea, and Tropical Summer, all with hints of McCormick’s herbs and spices.
The festivities kicked off with introductory remarks from Kate Tan, Marketing Manager of McCormick Philippines, and Nina Niguilda, Product Manager of the McCormick Noodle and Seasoning Mix, with the main premise to empower the local food scene, which is more globally knowledgeable than ever. Acknowledgments were also given to the invited chefs wherein each briefly discussed his/her dishes and restaurant.
The Flavor Nation Festival was an answer to the consumer’s need for accessibility and convenience by bringing together the food experience from restaurants around the metro. For the rice meals, was Chef Bernice Pimentel’s Paella Ilustrado, perfectly paired with the Callos Madrilena and Chef Jerome Lim’s Wagyu Don from Buta+Wagyu. Chef Marc Nocon’s Kandi burger with onion confit and candied bacon, was a thrill to the palate along with the other uniquely-named signature sliders from Burgers and Brewskies. Asia’s top chef, Margarita Fores also showcased some of her culinary creations including the Panino Porchetta and other notable dishes from Cibo and Café Bola alongside an actual pork lechon.
Completing the gastronomic experience were the hit churros from Churreria La Lola brought by the Master Churrero himself, Jordi Barraca. Similarly, Chef Aileen Anastacio’s snow cones perfectly paired with her confectionaries from Marmalade Kitchen was a sweet break from the humid summer afternoon.
Staying true to the promise of celebrating food and music, the night was welcomed by musical performances from TheSunManager and the soulful Keiko Necesario. Paranoid City provided a livelier intermission with its synth pop sound, while Fools and Foes soothed us with its indie folk feel. Wolfgang’s vocalist, Basti Artadi, added his own touch to covers such as I Can’t Make You Love Me and Message in a Bottle. Capping off a night of performances was Reese Lansangan with her quirky lyrics and catchy tunes.
Everyone left the event with at least something to remember the festivities by, with others luckily taking home raffle items from some of our partners Tefal, OXO, Oneida, and Anchor Hocking. What essentially was an avenue for McCormick to acquaint its five new noodle variants to the market, the Flavor Nation Festival, without a doubt, delivered more than what was expected.

April 25, 2016: The McCormick Flavor Nation Festival brings you a perfect combination of food, music, and everything in between this Saturday, April 30, at the Bonifacio High Street Central Amphitheater, from 12NN to 9PM!
McCormick is set to introduce their newest line of McCormick noodles. Taking center stage on Saturday are the 5 variants of the new McCormick noodles: Palabok, Pad Thai, Chap Chae, Birthday Noodles, and Laksa – all of which will be offered or sampled for free at the McCormick noodle bars. McCormick’s resident chef, Sabrina Artadi of Sabrina’s Kitchen will also be present to offer the perfect pairings for the new line of noodles.
To add to the festivities, we’ve invited the chefs from popular restaurants to feature some of their signature dishes. Grab a plate of juicy and flavorful sliders from Marc Nocon of Burgers & Brewskies; savory paella and callos from Bernice Pimentel of Ilustrado; mouthwatering pork buns and wagyu rice by Chef Jerome of Buta Wagyu; and classic Filipino dishes by Margarita Fores of Cafe Bola. Top off your meal with classic churros from Master Churerro Jordi Barraca of Churreria La Lola as well as sweet cakes and cool sno cones from Aileen Anastacio of Marmalade Kitchen.
