Cities along Queensland's coast have had major developments that have led to a sprawl further into the state's wilds.

Unlike cities in the United States, that follow a noticeable grid pattern, Queensland's cities seem to follow rivers and tributaries. 

The Google Earth Engine tool is also useful for tracking the changes in the state's landscape such as Wyaralong dam and new developments like Springfield and North Lakes.

Google developers have combined five million images to map the world the receding glaciers in the Northern Hemisphere, shrinking jungle in the Amazon and the growth of nations.

The Gold Coast has undergone major changes since 1984.

The changes on the Sunshine Coast have been much more dramatic than Brisbane.

Growth in Rockhampton is less noticeable, but the rotation of crops makes a striking difference from the south east cities.

Cairns has not sprawled as much as the other cities, but there have been many developments in the past three decades.
