A meow /miˈaʊ/, also spelled miaow, is the most familiar vocalization of cats. A meow can be assertive, plaintive, friendly, bold, welcoming, attention soliciting, demanding, or complaining. It can even be silent, where the cat opens its mouth but does not vocalize. Adult cats do not meow to each other, and so adult meowing to human beings is likely to be a post-domestication extension of mewing by kittens.
In English, the first use of the spelling "meow" was in 1842. Before that, the word could be spelled "miaow", "miau", or "meaw".
Different languages have correspondingly different words for the "meow" sound, including miau (Belarusian, Croatian, Hungarian, Finnish, Lithuanian, Malay, German, Polish, Russian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish and Ukrainian), mňau (Czech), meong (Indonesian), njäu (Estonian), niau (Ukrainian), niaou (νιάου, Greek), miaou (French), nyā (ニャー, Japanese), miao (喵, Mandarin Chinese, Italian), miav/miao or mjav/mjau (Danish, Swedish and Norwegian), mjá (Icelandic), ya-ong (야옹, Korean), میاؤں / Miyāʾūṉ (Urdu),miaŭ (Esperanto) and meo-meo (Vietnamese). In some languages (such as Chinese 貓, māo), the vocalization became the name of the animal itself.
Miaow is the fourth album by The Beautiful South. It was released in March 1994.
As with most Beautiful South albums, the songs were written by Dave Rotheray and Paul Heaton. The songs reflect a depressing moment in Heaton's life, and this continues with the follow-up album Blue is the Colour. The best example of this on the album is the opening track "Hold on to What?", which could be interpreted as an attack on the ruling classes, this is most evident at the end of the song where Heaton sings 'Chamberlain had his paper, Jesus had his cross, They held on, We held on to what?'
The songs also led the South's first female singer, Briana Corrigan, to leave the band, after Heaton sent her copies of the songs, including "Mini-correct" and "Worthless Lie", she swiftly made the decision to leave. Equally swiftly, Heaton employed the then-unknown Jacqui Abbott in her place, who went on to appear on every album up to Painting It Red.
The cover originally depicted a lot of dogs seated in a music hall with a gramophone on the stage. However, HMV made the band withdraw it as it mocked their trademark dog, and the band put out a second cover, depicting four dogs in a boat. Both paintings were created by Michael Sowa.
Miaow were an indie band from Manchester, England, active between 1984 and 1988. They were led by former Glass Animals singer and NME writer Cath Carroll on vocals and guitar, with Steve Maguire (guitar), Ron Caine (bass) and Chris Fenner (drums). Their debut single, Belle Vue, was released in December 1985, the 12"-version featuring the track Grocer's Devil Daughter, a song about Margaret Thatcher. The band's next release was the Sport Most Royal track that they contributed to the NME’s C86 compilation in 1986. After supporting The Woodentops on their UK tour, two further singles followed in 1987 on Factory Records, the band also relocating to London. Carroll joined The Hit Parade and Miaow split up without releasing the promised album titled Priceless Innuendo. Cath Carroll subsequently married Big Black guitarist Santiago Durango and went on to a solo career in the 1990s.

I looked at faith
I almost walked away
But I looked again
I found the nerve to close my eyes and say the words
To ask you in
And I heard no heavenly choir
No angels in whit attire
i got no amazing super hum omnipresent pow but....
CHORUS
I know You now
I know You now
I know You're in my heart
I know You now
Beyond the shadow of a doubt
I know You now
I look at peace, that once was out of reach
And now it's here
i read Your word that some believe is so absurd
But I hold dear, yea
'Cause You loved me with your dying breath
You saved me when You conquered death
