Updating the headlines: A Melbourne man is in custody after being arrested over the "unprovoked" stabbing death of a French tourist in the Northern Territory outback; the Australian economy shrank in the September quarter and next week's GDP figures are expected to have a minus sign in front of it; and the Victorian Government has accused the  Federal Government of short-changing Australia's most bushfire prone state on mobile phone blackspots.

A female wine thief has allegedly stolen a bottle of French plonk worth $250 in Toorak after securing it in her handbag.

The woman entered the Toorak Road liquor store and put a bottle of French wine in her handbag about 1.30pm on Sunday, November 20.

She left the store and did not pay, police say. Police have released images of a woman they believe may be able to assist in their investigation.

She is believed to be aged in her 50s, about 169 centimetres tall and with reddish-coloured hair.

She was wearing a navy top, patterned pants and slip-on sandals.

Springvale Road crash.

The intersection of Springvale Road and the Eastern Freeway was also struck by delays yesterday when a crash saw four people treated.

Update on Springvale Road:

The motorcyclist involved in the crash on Springvale Road has died, police have confirmed.

The male rider was turning from Springvale Road onto the Eastern Freeway on-ramp when he was struck by a car about 6.30am.

The rider has died at the scene.

The male driver was arrested at the scene and is assisting police.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the crash.

The northbound lanes of Springvale Road have been closed while police examine the scene.

Norwegian pancakes, Danish hot dogs, Swedish cakes and open sandwiches are among the fare on offer at the Scandinavian Christmas Bazaar in Toorak on both Saturday and Sunday.

Held at The Swedish Church, 21 St Georges Road, this bazaar is mainstay of the Melbourne nordic calendar. The bazaar runs from 10am-4pm and includes design, textiles, handicrafts and glassware and live music.

Admission is free, but organisers ask that you make a gold coin donation.
