Homicide police and detectives from Taskforce Maxima are also investigating possible outlaw motorcycle gang connections after the 41-year-old man was shot dead at his home in Carrara.

Detective Inspector Marc Hogan said the man's body was found inside a shed on the property, which also doubled as the man's home.

"It appears to be a shed that is being lived in as well," he said.

Detective Inspector Hogan could not confirm whether there were any drugs on the property, and said police don't know if the murder weapon was on the property either.

"Detectives from Gold Coast CIB with the assistance of homicide and other groups from the state crime command will continue this investigation as we unfold it," he said.

"It's very early at the moment in the investigation, so a lot of things are unclear."

He said police also wanted to speak to a tattooed caucasian woman with brown hair.

Detective Inspector Hogan said no other people appear to have been injured in the incident, and police are now speaking to a number of witnesses who were at the scene at the time of the shooting.

Police were called to the Riverbend Avenue address at 8.45am following reports a man had been shot.

Paramedics were also called to the scene and performed CPR on a man who was reportedly not breathing.
