Oakland University (OU) is a public university located in the cities of Auburn Hills and Rochester Hills, Michigan. Situated on a 1,443-acre (5.84 km2) campus, it was co-founded by Matilda Dodge Wilson and John A. Hannah. It is the only major research university in Oakland County, from which the school derives its name, and it serves much of the Metro Detroit region. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching has classified OU as a Doctoral Research University.
Oakland University was initially under the banner of Michigan State University as Michigan State University–Oakland, or MSU-O. It opened in 1959 with 570 students and three buildings. In 1963, it became known as Oakland University.
The university's athletic teams compete in Division I of the NCAA and are collectively known as the Golden Grizzlies. They are members of the Horizon League.
The history of Oakland University begins in 1908 with the purchase of a farmhouse and 320 acres of land known as Meadow Brook Farms in central Oakland County by automobile manufacturing pioneer John Francis Dodge and his wife Matilda as a weekend home. After Dodge died in 1920, Matilda inherited his fortune. She soon remarried to lumber baron Alfred G. Wilson. The couple then built Meadow Brook Hall on the land between 1926 and 1929.

Oakland University is a highly-acclaimed university located in Rochester, MI (about 24 miles north of Detroit). This was the university where I received my bachelor's degree (in Information Technology) back in 2011. It was great getting to revisit the campus again! I show around the campus from the campus center (the Oakland Center) as well as some of the academic buildings.
Students at Oakland University pay no fees like they do at other universities. No activity fees, no parking fees, no recreation fees, no registration fees — not even an application fee! Watch as one student goes a whole day using nothing but his ID card to eat, work out and get involved.

You need a good idea of what the campus and student body is about, and the staff. You get to come and see how students interact with each other and how the staff interacts with their students. And getting to see the dynamics between everybody is crucial. If you aren’t into a small school, then maybe you should go look at a bigger school. But you’re not gonna know that unless you visit the campus and see what they’re like. Seeing what people have to say about...
Meet Isaiah Brock - a man good enough to serve our country but not to suit up for the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies. The NCAA deemed the 6-foot, 8-inch Army veteran is ineligible to play college basketball. "I wrote plenty of letters to the NCAA explaining my story basically trying to show them that I'm worthy of this opportunity," he said. "And just to find out that they denied me was really devastating." He was denied in large part because of his high school grades. The Baltimore native says he was a "C" student but he wasn't focusing too much on academics, just getting out of an unstable environment. "When you have like gang members in your school and fights all the time it's not an environment you want to learn in," Brock said. That was five years ago and Brock says he's a d...

Here we are testing a "dew point cooler" which is an indirect evaporative cooling unit based on the Maisotsenko cycle, from Dr. Valeriy Maisotsenko. The Heat and Mass unit or HMX core, installed in the clear acrylic, is manufactured by Coolerado, Inc in Denver, CO. This unit efficiently and effectively provides cool air conditioning using water and small fan, for use in dry climates. However, we will be testing the use of a pre-drying desiccant addition to allow for cooling with this method anywhere in the world in any climate. The desiccant would need to be dried out in a fully functional system, but this would only use heat. This thermal energy could be solar thermal, waste heat from an engine generator (Combined Heat & Power, or CHP) or merely natural gas fired hot water. A micro CHP un...
