Austin (
i/ˈɒstɪn, ˈɔː-/) is the capital of the US state of Texas and the seat of Travis County. Located in Central Texas, Austin is the 11th-most populous city in the United States and the fourth-most populous city in Texas. It is the fastest growing of the largest 50 US cities. Austin is also the second largest state capital in the United States, after Phoenix, Arizona. As of July 1, 2014, Austin had a population of 912,791 (U.S. Census Bureau estimate). The city is the cultural and economic center of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area, which had an estimated population of 1,943,299 as of July 1, 2014.
In the 1830s, pioneers began to settle the area in central Austin along the Colorado River. After Republic of Texas Vice President Mirabeau B. Lamar visited the area during a buffalo-hunting expedition between 1837 and 1838, he proposed that the republic's capital, then located in Houston, be relocated to the area situated on the north bank of the Colorado River near the present-day Congress Avenue Bridge. In 1839, the site was officially chosen as the republic's new capital (the republic's seventh and final location) and was incorporated under the name Waterloo. Shortly thereafter, the name was changed to Austin in honor of Stephen F. Austin, the "Father of Texas" and the republic's first secretary of state.

The owner of a trademark may pursue legal action against trademark infringement. Most countries require formal registration of a trademark as a precondition for pursuing this type of action. The United States, Canada and other countries also recognize common law trademark rights, which means action can be taken to protect an unregistered trademark if it is in use. Still common law trademarks offer the holder in general less legal protection than registered trademarks.

Austin E. Ford
Austin Edward Ford (August 31, 1857 - September 17, 1896) was an American publisher and the Fire Commissioner of New York City.
Biography
He was born on August 31, 1857 in Boston, Massachusetts to Ellen and Thomas Irwin Ford.
He was editor of the New York Freeman, and was associated with the Irish World, a newspaper run by his uncle, Patrick Ford.<ref name=AEF / As such, he was active in promoting the cause of Irish independence.
Ford moved to New York City, where he later ran for New York's 7th congressional district for the United States Congress, losing to the Democratic Party candidate, Franklin Bartlett, in 1894. At the time he lived at 2767 Marion Avenue in what is now the Borough of the Bronx. He was appointed as the Fire Commissioner of New York City in 1895 by fellow Republican, Mayor Strong.
He died in office at the age of 39, on September 17, 1896 from appendicitis.
Legacy
Ford was a relative of Bishop Francis Xavier Ford, M.M., a missionary killed during the Korean War, Sister Ita Ford, M.M., a missionary murdered in El Salvador in 1980, and her brother, William P. Ford, Jr.

On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago. This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas. I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane. Magical Sintra, Portugal
We visited this small tourist town in the hills above Lisbon in April, 2015. It really is a magical place. Almost as if Disney had designed it, but better. It was our first trip to Portugal and we discovered what a wonderful country it is — and a great value, especially compared to the rest of Europe. It has a climate similar to California and our main driver/guide called it the “west coast of Europe.” The California similarity even includes a vibrant surfer scene. We highly recommend Portugal! In this episode of Streets by Vice, we explore Austin’s rich and rather strange cultural history through the lens of one of its most iconic thoroughfares: 6th street. Sixth is significant in many ways; it was the breeding ground for its now renowned music scene, which when talking to experts across the city is at the core of virtually every other industry in Austin and inextricable from the city's identity. 6th street also spans east to west across the city, the urban planning for which has major implications on the city’s diverse demography. Finally, where sixth street runs through downtown, it sits adjacent to its tech epicenter which is currently booming on a national scale.
If Austin has always had one foot firmly planted in music, the other has most certainly been in tech—since the 1950s Austin has been a notable location for the industry. The University of Texas at Austin has consistently pumped students through its engineering and computer science programs, and as a result it sits firmly at the forefront of the tech space. In contrast to a city like San Francisco, however, the money and development that has come along with the tech boom has not diminished its alternative, creative identity. Over past decades, the two worlds have managed to thrive alongside each other, often with intriguing overlap. And while the whitewashing and gentrification many Austinites take issue with may be true, what we are seeing now is an Austin that more than anything is simply growing up.

On September 11th 2015 I took the Texas Eagle Amtrak train from LA to Austin. The train passes through the states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, taking nearly 33 hours to complete this leg of the journey, before continuing on up to Chicago.
This short film comprises a number of clips I took from the train window, mostly in Arizona and Texas.
I highly recommended seeing America this way. Though it's not the most comfortable way to travel you'll see things and meet people you rarely would travelling by car or plane.
Music is 'Exit Does Not Exist' by Sun Kil Moon, taken from his album of Modest Mouse covers. A record I was listening to a lot at the time.
Shot on my iPhone 6 using the Hyperlapse app (for stabilisation), edited in Premiere Pro.

We visited this small tourist town in the hills above Lisbon in April, 2015. It really is a magical place. Almost as if Disney had designed it, but better. It was our first trip to Portugal and we discovered what a wonderful country it is — and a great value, especially compared to the rest of Europe. It has a climate similar to California and our main driver/guide called it the “west coast of Europe.” The California similarity even includes a vibrant surfer scene. We highly recommend Portugal!
The music accompaniment in the video was provided by a group from Austin, Texas, called Balmorhea:
“We Will Rebuild with Smooth Stones” from the album, “Balmorhea” (2007)
“Baleen Morning” from the album, “Rivers Arms (Deluxe Edition)” (2008)
For the video techies, I shot in Cinema 4K (4096x2016) using my new Panasonic Lumix GH4 camera. C4K is slightly wider than regular HD (approx 17:9) and I reduced the final output to 2048x1080 to preserve the wider aspect ratio. This reduction process has the advantage of producing very sharp and detailed HD video (assuming sharp focus on capture!) and allows cropping and even zooming in post with no loss in image quality. I changed my shooting technique on this trip: I only used manual focus and usually used manual exposure. For the first time I shot at the standard movie industry frame rate of 24fps with 1/50th sec shutter speed for that "cinematic look" (formerly, I would shoot at the video standard 30fps). I used faster lenses (primarily 12-35mm f2.8 zoom -- equiv to 24-70 on 35mm) and did not use the big 14-140mm f3.5-5.6 "travel zoom" from past trips. At times I also employed a super wide 7-14mm f4, and a 50mm f1.8 Nikon prime lens.

Andrew DeVigal is an Emmy-award winning innovative strategist who builds bridges by connecting ideas and people together to produce meaningful and interactive stories. As multimedia editor of The New York Times, he helped transform and evolve the print newsroom into the digital and interactive era. At The Times, he conceived and directed ground-breaking story forms and processes that help shape the industry today. He's used his extensive reach into various disciplines to connect the right people to collaborate and produce extraordinary work. He recently co-founded A Fourth Act to help redefine the territories of how and why we tell stories.
Hilary Sparrow manages the production, outreach & impact initiatives and evaluation of Vulcan Productions' film and television projects. Her most recent work includes the award-winning feature length documentary, Girl Rising and the feature length documentary, Pandora’s Promise, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Tom Ford was born August 27, 1961, in Austin, Texas, to realtors Shirley Burton (née Shirley Ann Thrasher) and Thomas David Ford.[4][5][6] He spent his early life in the suburbs of Houston, Texas, and in San Marcos, outside Austin; his family moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, when he was 11.[7] In Santa Fe, he entered St. Michael's High School and later moved to Santa Fe Preparatory School, from which he graduated in 1979.[8] Ford left Santa Fe at age 16, when he enrolled at Bard College at Simon's Rock, but quickly dropped out.[citation needed] He then moved to New York City to study art history at New York University.[9][10]

BMC was the largest British car company of its day, with (in 1952) 39 percent of British output, producing a wide range of cars under brand names including Austin, Morris, MG, Austin-Healey and Wolseley as well as commercial vehicles and agricultural tractors. The first chairman was Lord Nuffield (William Morris) but he was replaced in August 1952 by Austin's Leonard Lord who continued in that role until his 65th birthday in 1961 but handing over, in theory at least, the managing director responsibilities to his deputy George Harriman in 1956. BMC's headquarters were at the Austin plant at Longbridge, near Birmingham and Austin was the dominant partner in the group mainly because of the chairman. BMC's headquarters were at the Austin plant at Longbridge, near Birmingham and Austin was the dominant partner in the group mainly because of the chairman. The use of Morris engine designs was dropped within 3 years and all new car designs were coded ADO from "Amalgamated Drawing Office". The Longbridge plant was up to date, having been thoroughly modernised in 1951, and compared very favourably with Nuffield's 16 different and often old fashioned factories scattered over the English Midlands. Austin's management systems however, especially cost control and marketing, were not as good as Nuffield's and as the market changed from a shortage of cars to competition this was to tell. The biggest-selling car, the Mini, was famously analysed by Ford Motor Company who concluded that BMC must be losing £30 on every one sold. The result was that although volumes held up well throughout the BMC era, market share fell as did profitability and hence investment in new models, triggering the 1966 merger with Jaguar Cars to form British Motor Holdings (BMH), and three years later leading to the government sponsored merger of BMH with Leyland Motor Corporation.
