I can't believe we (I) didn't spot this scumbag if he was truly walking around the area.

I dont think many were expecting Metzger to be at the rally. And to be honest, for many of the newer anti-fascists, i wonder how many of them actually know of Metzger? He has moved away from being the major public figure he used to be in the 1980's W.A.R. era. He has moved on to be kind of the elder statesman of the radical fascist movement. Looking at his site he would rather be playing the covert lone wolf role than anything the NSM may do.

Since he was there to get an overall vibe of the event, was not hanging with the nazis (in fact he was mingling with the antiracist opposition), and was probably trying to not look like a suspicious nazi if people did see him they either, A) thought little of him, perhaps thinking him a curiosity seeker or an anti-racist, or B) thought he was a cop, which is (unfortuanatley) not uncommon to think when you see an older white straight looking guy hanging around in the middle of the protest. If the later was the case then it would be normal to avoid the guy - least you wind up arrested.

Either way, i think the radical antifascists have to be better at understanding the different sides, who is connecting or is critical of who and why, and what their politics and strategies are. Too often the antiracists just reduce the facists to their more comical shortcomings.

Beyond all this, i wonder what others think of Metzger's critique?
