Heatwave: 'no relief' for a week
Temperatures will soar up to ten degrees above average in south east Queensland for the start of summer. 7 News Queensland
The Bureau of Meteorology warned "very dangerous" thunderstorms are set to hit the Scenic Rim and move north east, with damaging winds, heavy rain and large hailstones forecast.
The bureau forecasts the storms to hit Brisbane CBD, Cleveland, Wynnum, Enoggera, Brisbane Airport and Nudgee by 4pm.
Earlier
BOM senior forecaster Michelle Berry said the dangerous storms are currently moving towards the southern and south western suburbs of Brisbane, and it could eventually be expected to hit Mount Gravatt.
Ms Berry also said the thunderstorms could possibly hit the inner city.
"There certainly is a chance we could actually see it hitting some fringes of Brisbane CBD," she said.
Fellow meteorologist Rick Threlfall said the storm was tracking north-east, but was the far southern suburbs, including Logan, that would take the brunt of the storm.
"It looks like they'll be the worst hit at the moment, but anywhere in Brisbane is still a risk," he said.
The severe thunderstorms were detected near Boonah and Kooralbyn, moving north, and are expected to hit the area between Boonah and Beaudesert by 3pm and the Peaking Crossing, Bundamba Lagoon, Greenbank and Redbank Plains areas by 3.30pm.
