Orne

Orne (French pronunciation: ​[ɔʁn]) is a department in the northwest of France, named after the river Orne.

History

Orne is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution, on 4 March 1790. It was created from parts of the former provinces of Normandy and Perche.

Geography

Orne is in the region of Normandy neighbouring Eure, Eure-et-Loir, Sarthe, Mayenne, and Calvados. It is the only department of Normandy to be landlocked.

Economy

The largest town by a considerable margin is the prefecture, Alençon which is an administrative and commercial centre for what is still an overwhelmingly rural department. There are no large industrial centres: agriculture remains the economic focus of Orne.

Demographics

The inhabitants of the department are called Ornais.

The recorded population level peaked at 443,688 in 1836. Declining farm incomes and the lure of better prospects in the overseas empire led to a sustained reduction in population levels in many rural departments, and by the time of the 1936 census the recorded population stood at just 269,331. Once motor car ownership started to surge in the 1960s employment opportunities became less restricted and by 2008 the population level had recovered a little to 292,282.

The Tree of Life: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the official soundtrack album for the 2011 drama film The Tree of Life directed by Terrence Malick. Composed by Alexandre Desplat, the soundtrack was released under Lakeshore Records on May 24, 2011.

Although billed as the movie's soundtrack, only a few minutes of this album are to be found in the film. The film and its teaser trailer also includes pieces of music such as the Vltava (also known as the Moldau) of Bedřich Smetana and Ottorino Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances Suite No. 3.

Kid Icarus (Japanese: 光神話 パルテナの鏡, Hepburn: Hikari Shinwa: Parutena no Kagami, lit. "Myth of Light: The Mirror of Palutena") is an action platform video game for the Family Computer Disk System in Japan and the Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe and North America. The first entry in Nintendo's Kid Icarus series, it was published in Japan in December 1986, and in Europe and North America in February and July 1987, respectively. It was later re-released for the Game Boy Advance in Japan during 2004, and for the Wii's Virtual Console online service in 2007. A sequel to this game was released for the Game Boy in 1991, and a third entry to the series was published for the Nintendo 3DS handheld console in March 2012.

The plot of Kid Icarus revolves around protagonist Pit's quest for three sacred treasures, which he must equip to rescue the Grecian fantasy world Angel Land and its ruler, the goddess Palutena. The player controls Pit through platform areas while fighting monsters and collecting items. Their objective is to reach the end of the levels, and to find and defeat boss monsters that guard the three treasures. The game was developed by Nintendo's Research and Development 1 division. It was designed by Toru Osawa and Yoshio Sakamoto, directed by Satoru Okada, and produced by Gunpei Yokoi.

Kid Icarus: Uprising

Kid Icarus: Uprising (新・光神話 パルテナの鏡, Shin Hikari Shinwa: Parutena no Kagami, lit. "New Light Mythology: Palutena's Mirror") is a third-person shooter for the Nintendo 3DS video game system, developed by Project Sora and published by Nintendo. It is the third game in the Kid Icarus series and the first since 1991's Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters. It was released worldwide in March 2012.

The game is also compatible with Circle Pad Pro and is bundled with the Nintendo 3DS Stand accessory for every copy of the game. It was the first online-enabled title outside Japan to be officially recognized under the Nintendo Network brand and was re-released as a digital Nintendo eShop title on 31 October 2013 in Japan, on 7 November 2013 in North America, and on 9 April 2014 in Europe.
