Vivendi seizes control of Ubisoft's Gameloft, their mobile game publishing company. The Guillemot brothers, among many, see this is as a step toward a hostile takeover of Ubisoft itself. The Gameloft CEO is allegedly stepping down following the takeover.

Vivendi is making some major moves lately. Vivendi recently bought 6.6 percent stake in Ubisoft. Vivendi has a history "aggressively pursuing companies within the entertainment sector." Why? Because Vivendi is a huge mongol as a Mass Media Property. Vivendi even owned Blizzard/Activision till around 2013 when Activision bought themselves out in part of a buyback process.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said Vivendi's investment into Ubisoft was "unsolicited and unwelcome."
"Our intention is and has always been to remain independent, a value which, for 30 years, has allowed us to innovate, take risks, create beloved franchises for players around the world, and which has helped the company grow into the leader it is today."
Vivendi is pretty much doing a hostile takeover of places like Gameloft and now Ubisoft. While Ubisoft isn't the most well liked company, it is a universally bad thing if a corporate entity like Vivendi is able to continue this trend. Vivendi is dangerous to Ubisoft and game companies in general of not only losing identity but losing actual little remaining quality left in the Triple A field.

Vivendi S.A. (formerly known as Vivendi Universal) is a French multinational mass media company headquartered in Paris, France. The company has activities in music, television, film, video games, telecommunications, tickets and video hosting service. The company is a component of the Euro Stoxx 50 stock market index.
Activities
Vivendi is a company primarily focused on digital entertainment. It owns the French TV channel and movie producer Canal+ Group, as well as music world leader Universal Music Group. On July 25, 2013, Vivendi asset Activision Blizzard announced the purchase of 429 million shares from Vivendi for $5.83 billion, dropping the shareholder from a 63% stake to 11.8% by the end of the deal in September, ending Vivendi's majority ownership of Activision Blizzard. In 2014, Vivendi decided to sell mobile companies SFR (France) to Patrick Drahi’s company, Altice and GVT (Brazil) to the Brazil company Telefônica Vivo. In November 2013, it signed the definitive agreement to sell its majority and controlling stake in Maroc Telecom (Morocco) to Etisalat based in Abu Dhabi.

Vivendi is making some major moves lately. Vivendi recently bought 6.6 percent stake in Ubisoft. Vivendi has a history "aggressively pursuing companies within the entertainment sector." Why? Because Vivendi is a huge mongol as a Mass Media Property. Vivendi even owned Blizzard/Activision till around 2013 when Activision bought themselves out in part of a buyback process.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said Vivendi's investment into Ubisoft was "unsolicited and unwelcome."
"Our intention is and has always been to remain independent, a value which, for 30 years, has allowed us to innovate, take risks, create beloved franchises for players around the world, and which has helped the company grow into the leader it is today."
Vivendi is pretty much doing a hostile takeover of places like Gameloft and now Ubisoft. While Ubisoft isn't the most well liked company, it is a universally bad thing if a corporate entity like Vivendi is able to continue this trend. Vivendi is dangerous to Ubisoft and game companies in general of not only losing identity but losing actual little remaining quality left in the Triple A field.
