a. The moderators of anews have asked many times for input on how to make conversations better on this site.
The responses have overwhelmingly been in two camps: one insisting (roughly) that the site should be no holds barred, anything that could possibly be called anarchist should be allowed, and the moderators should get out of the way. The other camp (roughly) demanding that there should be the correct amount (which varies) of moderation, usually more (and frequently targeted at specific, named posters).

A Brazilian anarchist student, Guilherme Irish, was this week murdered by his father due to his political views.

The mathematics student at Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG), known as Guilherme Irish, was shot dead by his father last Tuesday (15/11). He was an anarchist, black bloc participant and actively involved in the occupations of schools and colleges in Goiânia.

Text of one of the introductory talks at the London Anarchist Bookfair meeting on “Anarchism and the Struggle against the Borders” (29 October). The other introduction focused on connections between the Syrian revolution and diaspora and rebellions against the European border system.

The invitation to this meeting asked three questions. I am going to try to touch on all three questions, and to relate them specifically to a few things that happened in London in the last year or two.

We are rats running rabid through the stinking guts of London …

Sick of the fractured ‘scene’ of squatters in London, sick of faux-punk venues and the fashionable veneer of rebellion, sick of the apathy and passivity, sick of housing where everyone is locked in their own rooms, their own lives, their existence atomised, stinking of fried chicken and choking on the bones of what once was, we came together to act …

We are a collective of those in active rebellion.

Warsaw. Barcelona. Roma. Thessaloniki. London. All over we meet in joint attack.

A First-Hand Account of the Fuck Trump March in Minneapolis

Last Thursday night, Socialist Alternative and other left-wing and progressive nonprofits and political parties (Neighborhoods Organizing for Change, Students for a Democratic Society, and more) held a demonstration to protest the election of Donald Trump to the presidency. The crowd was huge, bigger than any march I’ve seen in Minneapolis in a while. In fact, the last time I saw a crowd this big it was the march put on by what would eventually become Black Lives Matter the day after a grand jury announced its decision to not prosecute Darren Wilson for the murder of Mike Brown.

Cultural Appropriation & Shaming

From Fifth Estate #397, Winter 2017

On college campuses, in urban squats, at hip city venues, and at anarchist events, one often sees young white people sporting dreadlocks or Mohawk haircuts. However, there has been an increasingly aggressive push- back by those who designate this as cultural appropriation and are confronting and shaming those they deem guilty of the practice.
