1972 (MCMLXXII) was a leap year starting on Saturday (dominical letter BA) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1972nd year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 972nd year of the 2nd millennium, the 72nd year of the 20th century, and the 3rd year of the 1970s decade.
Within the context of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) it was the longest year ever, as two leap seconds were added during this 366-day year, an event which has not since been repeated. (If its start and end are defined using mean solar time [the legal time scale], its duration was 31622401.141 seconds of Terrestrial Time (or Ephemeris Time), which is slightly shorter than 1908).
Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies". They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
Deep Purple have had several line-up changes and an eight-year hiatus (1976–1984). The 1968–1976 line-ups are commonly labelled Mark I, II, III and IV. Their second and most commercially successful line-up featured Ian Gillan (vocals), Jon Lord (organ), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums), and Ritchie Blackmore (guitar). This line-up was active from 1969 to 1973, and was revived from 1984 to 1989, and again from 1992 to 1993. The band achieved more modest success in the intervening periods between 1968 and 1969 with the line-up including Rod Evans (vocals) and Nick Simper (bass, backing vocals), between 1974 and 1976 (Tommy Bolin replacing Blackmore in 1975) with the line-up including David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass, vocals), and between 1989 and 1992 with the line-up including Joe Lynn Turner (vocals). The band's line-up (currently featuring Ian Gillan, and guitarist Steve Morse from 1994) has been much more stable in recent years, although organist Jon Lord's retirement from the band in 2002 (being succeeded by Don Airey) left Ian Paice as the only original Deep Purple member still in the band.
The Bassmaster Classic is a competition in professional bass fishing. It was first held in 1971 on Lake Mead, Nevada. Originally it was a fall event (1971-1983), but it switched to the summer in 1984 and then to the late winter in 2006. The winner of the tournament is widely considered to be the world champion of bass fishing, as is stated on the winner's trophy.
The event has turned into a three-day spectacle, complete with a theatrical presentation of the weigh-ins and hours of television coverage. ESPN purchased Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (BASS), which organizes the event, and increased coverage of the event and the Classic's profile.
In 2014, the Classic was held on Guntersville Lake in Alabama, with weigh-ins at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. The lake has hosted several Classics, most recently in 1976.
Rick Clunn and Kevin VanDam have each won the event four times. Bobby Murray, Hank Parker and George Cochran have won twice each.
First-place money has grown from $10,000 in 1971 to $500,000 in 2006; it was reduced to $300,000 in 2014.

This 1972 Corvette is simply incredible. It was built specifically to win autocrosses, and has all the hardware. It has Detroit Speed's prototype C3 Corvette suspension system in the front and rear, runs 315 Front and 335 Rear section tires, and is powered by a 600 HP Mast Motorsports LS3 and a four-speed Hightower crashbox. It's completely nuts. Learn more about this build at: http:/www.detroitspeed.com Full Disclosure: Detroit Speed and Engineering provided flight, hotel, and rental car, as well as several meals towards the production of this video series.
The Top 24 fishermen in the U.S. compete in the second annual Bassmaster Classic in 1972. All of the anglers used the same boat rigs on the surprise location of Percy Priest Reservoir in Tennessee. Fishing fans will recognize Bill Dance, Bobby Murray and Ricky Green in this video from the first catch-and-release Bassmaster Classic. The first member of the Bass Angler Sportsman Society wins the top prize of $10,000.

He hit the Man for $3 million right where it hurts in the diamonds. And baby, that's cold.
For the best quality of a synchronization I had to mount this video from few different sources. I think my version is better than the official clip. :) Я смонтировал это видео из нескольких исходников. По сути это - клип, а не концертное выступление под фанеру. Поэтому к поклонникам живого звука большая просьба не возмущаться. :)
"Moving on from 1972 ain't an easy task," he said
Says he's been sober since she left him for dead
And the old man takes a swig of his non-alcoholic beer
And the tired man proudly takes a drag
It's been nearly 28 years
And it still blows me away how easily time is wasted
And it still blows me away how easily we're kept wounded
Anger is so real
"Didn't mean to say the things I told you," I said
Your interpretation was in your head
I guess you could chock it up to a life experience
Go ahead and live your life while it's full of bitterness
And it still blows me away how easily time is wasted
And it still blows me away how easily we're kept wounded
Anger is so real
And it still blows me away how easily time is wasted
And it still blows me away how easily we're kept wounded
