City Managing Director Roy Amemiya said Friday that Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s administration did not delay the announcement of Honolulu Zoo Administrator Baird Fleming’s resignation until after the Nov. 8 general election to ensure a key City Charter amendment won passage.

Honesty, Integrity, Trustworthy…none of which applies to the current and future City Administration. Just imagine what else have they been hiding from the people. RAIL for instance???
SA probably knew about this before the election, but as loyalists to the Mayor they failed to inform the public! Investigate, don’t just report after the fact. If we had an unbiased paper we probably would not have rail.
Ozawa’s comments don’t stand up. Fleming was all of the things he claims to want. He is just hoping the new director will be allied with him, which is what all of his actions seem to be aimed for.
I did not vote for the charter amendment that would have added yet another tax to residents to fund this ailing zoo. The city needs to partner with private companies to provide a steady stream of funding that would help get the accreditation back. As far as the timing of the zoo director’s announcement, I cry “fowl”, “bull”, and horse sh*t.
“The primary reason Fleming gave for wanting to leave was the high cost of living in Hawaii” Wouldn’t the cost of living in Hawaii have been something that Fleming could have determined/investigated prior to accepting the position?
Not trying to defend the guy – but this is something rather common for white collar mainlanders. It’s hard to understand how much the true cost of living is in Hawaii unless you know it firsthand by having grown up there, stayed with relatives for a long time, or at least had some kind of temporary assignment. The same kind of 3 bedroom 500k home in the mainland suburbs would easily be a multi-million dollar home in the isles. It’s hard to step down in your lifestyle when you’re already living it.
get rid of the zoo! it should be shut down.
send the animals to sanctuaries on the mainland and use the land to show off native Hawaiian plants and birds in walk through aviaries.
Let’s not turn this in another Native Hawaiian tourist attraction that people don’t come to, but allows Native Hawaiians to receive high paying jobs.
Build a monument to Krook Kadwell’s corruption on the zoo site
casino?
Than who will run the City?
You mean who will rip us blind?
I think we should … Talk to the animals first
that sounds logical …
And you two can talk to animals.

Deny, deny, doesn’t make it true.
The zoo amendment should get trashed. So much denial = Krook and his cabinet knew this was a done deal.

Caldwell would not trick or lie to the voters. Sure thing!
