Collins Arch, at 447 Collins Street, comprises dual towers linked by Melbourne’s first sky bridge, from level 34 to 39. The mixed-use development by Cbus Property will house luxurious apartments with residents’ private amenities, a five-star hotel of 294 rooms, offices, retail outlets and a public amphitheatre.
The project will occupy the city block bordered by Collins, Williams and Market streets and Flinders Lane.
Design of the $1.25-billion project is a collaboration between two globally significant architecture firms – Melbourne-based Woods Bagot and New York practice SHoP Architects, underlining the international, world-class aspect of the building.
“The idea of a city-within-a-city drove the design – we wanted to create a new amenity for Melbourne that will be an amazing place to live, work or play,” says William Sharples, principal of SHoP Architects.
The 202 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments occupy the premium position in Collins Arch – the top floors with views that spread far across Melbourne and out to sea.
The raking southern facade of Collins Arch provides south-facing apartments with expansive private terraces that are open to the sky, allowing maximum exposure to prevailing panoramic views and natural light.
Interiors throughout are designed to be warm, sophisticated and welcoming, a perfect eyrie from which to enjoy the magnificent, far-reaching views and glittering lights spread out below. Oak floors, a light and open layout, kitchens designed to be a beautiful element in the living area rather than just a utility space, and generous outdoor areas are features of these homes.
“In this globally enviable architectural residence, there is a particular emphasis on design that embraces each apartment’s sky-high aspect. The stepping back of the apartments gives a mountain-top feel to the urban facade,” said Woods Bagot principal Nik Karalis. “We’ve then ensured the oasis feel continues inside with a vertical garden on the top floor offering tranquillity for residents in the middle of the metropolis.”
A public park on Market Street adjoining the site has been announced by the planning minister. Completion of Collins Arch is anticipated in late 2019.

Location, location
At the very heart of all that is exciting about Melbourne, Collins Arch not only has instant access to city attractions, but is perfectly positioned on Melbourne’s premier Collins Street for a short walk to Southbank, Crown and Melbourne’s best culinary hot spots. Public transport is on the doorstep.
Commual spaces
Residents’ shared facilities are located on level 34 – the first level of the sky bridge that links the east and west towers. The amenities have some of the best views in the city, taking in panoramas to the north, south and east. Residents have access to a 25-metre pool, gym, yoga studio and club lounge. A large number of guests can be entertained in the two private dining rooms with attached kitchen and private wine storage. A spectacular sky garden is located on level 39 for exclusive use of residents.
Kitchen
Luxury is underlined with stone benchtops, premium veneer cabinetry and brushed nickel fittings.
Miele appliances are standard and all kitchens have island benches with custom pendant lighting. Views will be celebrated, even in the kitchens of premium apartments, where the smart design allows the chef to appreciate the world outside. Three colour schemes will be available.
Bathroom
Bathrooms are masterfully designed and finely detailed. Large-format porcelain tiles from floor to ceiling create a sense of space and luxury. The timber-veneer mirrored vanity cabinet features above a solid surface basin creating smooth, sleek lines.
Frosted glass gives a soft, pearly light to the frameless shower and there is ample under-bench storage. Deep, luxurious baths in premium apartments create a sense of tranquil withdrawal and indulgence. Feature wall lights finish the space.
