Updated November 25, 2016 08:40:22

Linking artists from PNG and Indigenous Australians for a combined exhibition is just one many recommendations put forward by a group of young leaders from both countries meeting this week at the annual Lowy Emerging leaders dialogue in Brisbane.

Enhancing relationships between the two countries was top of the agenda during the two-day event, with around 20 participants from a diverse cross section of industries.

Art as a soft diplomatic tool was a key theme of the event and the dialogue was held in collaboration with the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane which is currently staging its 'No. 1 Neighbour' exhibition, promoting the very best of contemporary PNG art.

Catherine Graue was one of those attending the dialogue and had her own private tour with the exhibition's curator, Ruth McDougall.
